So. much. wine-drinking. We look at TV's biggest imbibers

Lucille Bluth (Jessica Walters), Arrested Development

Drink of choice: Cloudmir vodka Who doesn't like a hearty breakfast of vodka and a piece of toast? Lucille Bluth was rarely seen without a drink in her hand on Arrested Development, and her love of alcohol may be the only proof that Mama Bluth actually feels human emotions. Whether she's upset over the lack of alcohol in rehab or confusing a warning label on a pill bottle for a wink, Lucille is one woman we'll raise our glass to every time.

Alicia Florrick, The Good Wife

Drink of choice: Red wine A cheating husband, a lying best friend, the death of her one true love. Alicia Florrick has proven that she can handle almost anything — it's just easier with some kind of libation. And thank goodness. If it wasn't for all those tequila shots she used to do with Kalinda, the wine she drinks at political functions with Peter and at home or the martinis she recently enjoyed with Diane after Will's funeral, this tightly wound former housewife might never let loose. Although her drinking has gotten her into trouble every once in a while, the good wife is smart enough to know how to keep her drinking under control. Reason No. 47 why we want to be Alicia Florrick when we grow up.

Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington), Scandal

Drink of choice: Red wine Liv is already denied being with the love of her life. Why should she deny herself the comfort of a little a lot of red wine? Unlike Fitz, her father, or anything else in her life, wine and popcorn are the only things Olivia can rely on anymore. And it's not like she ever gets out-of-control wasted. Her drinking problem, as with every other little ridiculous issue that comes up in Liv's life, is handled.

Don Draper (Jon Hamm), Mad Men

Drink of choice: Whiskey It's always happy hour for the employees (and former employees) at Sterling Cooper & Partners! Sure, Don is now trying to turn over a new leaf when it comes to imbibing (tomato juice!), but he consumed enough whiskey over the first six seasons of Mad Men to fill the East River. Don's relationship with alcohol parallels his character arc though, as he progressed from a hard-drinking adman to a sad, bloated alcoholic.

Homer Simpson, The Simpsons

Drink of choice: Duff beer The patriarch of America's most famous animated nuclear family would not be complete without a Duff beer in hand, which he often enjoys with his pals at Moe's Tavern. Much like donuts and TV, beer is one of Homer's biggest loves, even if it can interfere with his everyday functioning or, say, work. He is often quoted for his thoughts on drinking, but none more so than this gem: "To alcohol — the cause of and solution to all of life's problems." Such a sage sot!

The Cul-de-Sac Crew, Cougar Town

Drink of choice: Red wine Cougar Town didn't start out as a comedy about six functioning alcoholics. However, much like Bobby's beloved Penny Can game, jokes about Jules and the group's shared love of red wine quickly became a calling card of the series. For the comedy's fourth and fifth seasons, TBS even showed Jules & Co. proudly holding their vino in the marketing campaign. So while Jules' super-sized wine glasses will probably never stand the test of time (R.I.P. Big Joe, Big Carl, Big Lou, and Big Tippi), the Cul-de-Sac crew's love of wine will last forever.

Norm Peterson (George Wendt), Cheers

Drink of choice: Beer As Norm learned early on from his buddy Cliff, "regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. And that is why you always feel smarter after a few beers." Although we find it hard to believe he kept a straight job, how can you fault a guy so fiercely loyal to his local watering hole they let him amass the world's largest tab.

Karen Walker (Megan Mullally), Will & Grace

Drink of choice: Martini, honey, and don't waste any space with those olives! If there's one thing Karen Walker loves more than gays, money and insulting Grace, it's booze. And lots of it. Rarely was the socialite without a vodka martini in hand, and she'd go to the ends of the Earth, aka suck the alcohol out of a deodorant stick, to get her fix — or just chug straight from the bottle.

The gang on How I Met Your Mother

Drink of choice: Whatever Carl's serving or Glen McKenna With all the time these guys spent at MacLaren's, it's a wonder no one developed liver disease or an addiction problem as of 2030. Seriously, they drank every single night and day — sometimes a light few rounds, sometimes a massive rager — and didn't discriminate, unable to tell the difference between $2,500 Glen McKenna and $10 scotch. At least they had Barney's "hangover elixir" to help them the morning after. Sort of.

Meredith Palmer, The Office

Drink of choice:Anything hard and cheap Unlike other hopelessly awkward, wet-blanket employee at Dunder Mifflin — we're looking at you, Angela — Meredith could always be counted on to get the party started. Whether she was taking her top off for Michael in his office or bellydancing, Meredith knew how to have a good time. But over the years, things like the flask under her car seat or the time she lit her hair on fire eventually set off her her co-workers' alarm bells and Michael (unsuccessfully) took her to rehab. Fortunately, fans learned in the series finale that Meredith had a good excuse for all of her drinking: She was working toward her Ph.D. Moral of the story? It's totally OK to be a drunk as long as you're in college!

Peter Griffin,Family Guy

Drink of choice: Beer Peter loves to pound back a few with his friends at the Drunken Clam, but his inebriated shenanigans tend to get him in trouble, leading to car accidents, brawls and worse. That's why, in a surprisingly smart move for the Griffin patriarch, he once decided to start a bar right in his own basement! Too bad Lois ruined his plan by indulging a little too much with all her new house guests, which sent Peter right back to the streets and his hilarious publicly intoxicated ways.

The Gang, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia

Drink of choice: Whatever's cheap/stolen/free Sure, Mac, Dennis, Dee, Charlie and Frank work at a bar and don't really seem to socialize with others or venture anywhere other than Paddy's Pub for any extended period of time, but too much booze is the least of their concerns. Although the group as a whole has been known to knock a few too many back now and then, their excessive drinking is mere peanuts compared to their past crack cocaine use and cannibalism. If anything, we wish these degenerates drank more so that they were physically unable to cause such irreparable damage to everyone else's lives.

drunks-game-of-thrones1

Tyrion and Cersei Lannister (Peter Dinklage and Lena Headey), Game of Thrones Drink of choice: Wine Although both siblings love their wine (being a Lannister has its stresses), Cersei breaks the cardinal rule of inebriation and is an angry drunk. Give that lady a goblet and let the slurred barbs fly! At least her little brother Tyrion makes an effort to be entertaining. He's quite the self-deprecating raconteur, such as when he tells his newlywed bride, "I vomited on a girl once in the middle of the act, not proud of it. But I think honesty is important between man and wife, don't you agree? Come, I'll tell you all about it, put you in the mood." Um, cheers?

Nick Miller (Jake Johnson), New Girl

Drink of choice: Beer Sober Nick can be a bit of a grumpy old man, but when he's in his cups, Nick lets his inner child out. When he's all squinty-eyed and shouting, Nick goes from a depressing curmudgeon to the source of endless entertainment. Plus, thanks to Nick's budding alcoholism, the world has been gifted with the greatest game of all: True American.
15 of 18 HBO

Kenny Powers (Danny McBride), Eastbound and Down

Drink of choice: Beer Who knew watching someone hit rock bottom could be so much fun? Kenny will do anything to numb the pain of his continual failure, especially if it involves drinking. And once he's three sheets to the wind, anything's game: hookers, jet-skis, yelling at children. The worse (and drunker) he is, the more we love him. That's why when it comes to Kenny, alcohol, you're in! Sobriety, you're f---ing out!
16 of 18 Comedy Central

Bender, Futurama

Drink of choice: Beer Sure, Bender is a raging alcoholic, but that's because he has to be. In the future, robots run on ethanol, which recharges their fuel cells. Shaped like a keg, Bender pretty much always has a six pack on hand to make sure he keeps running. (The cigars and robot hookers are just icing on the cake.)
17 of 18 Showtime

Frank Gallagher (William H. Macy), Shameless

Drink of choice:PBR, but really whatever he can get his hands on Constantly inebriated, the Gallagher patriarch is always on the lookout for a free drink — that is, until his liver failed and he was told he could never drink again. Then, he turned to pills, marijuana and other, ahem, methods of imbibing, including shooting alcohol up his rectum. Now that he's had a liver transplant, we're sure Frank will soon be back off the wagon!
18 of 18 Quantrell D. Colbert/The CW

Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder), The Vampire Diaries

Drink of choice: Whiskey Whether he's angry with himself for screwing things up with Elena, devising a new plan to take down a villain, or simply has nothing better to do than day-drink, Damon can often be found pouring one out or slamming it down. Heck, the guy even likes a drink by his side while enjoying a relaxing bubble bath! The upside to his little habit is that it takes a lot for vampires to get drunk so he's rarely actually wasted.
