Ill-Advised Celebrity Tattoos

Kate Gosselin

As every mom and dad learns, sometimes you have to choose between being a parent and being a pal. Gosselin's Winnie the Pooh tattoo suggests she's opted for pal. And not even a cool pal, but a trying-much-too-hard pal. Of course, there can be a narrow difference between good and bad. We would have totally loved an Eeyore.

Amanda Seyfried

Seyfriend is so talented, and so classically beautifully, that it seems only fair to other women that she handicap herself with a totally bonkers foot tattoo. Hers reads "minge," which is a British slang word for female genitalia. And yes, as she's repeatedly explained, she knows exactly what it means.

Dean McDermott

We have the feeling Tori Spelling made him do this.

Stephen Baldwin

Baldwin reportedly got his "HM" tattoo on a dare from Miley Cyrus, as a tribute to Hannah Montana. But we suspect, as we do with so many things done by the most eccentric Baldwin, that it's really some kind of inside joke with himself. We don't know if this is ill-advised or somehow brilliant.

Mike Tyson

The ex-champ's facial tattoo may have been ill-advised during his angrier days, because it fueled all the talk that he was (how to put this?) completely crazy. But it works better for him now that he's a reflective, blissed-out vegan. We're loving the new Iron Mike, tattoo and all.

Britney Spears

During the filming of Crossroads, Spears got a Japanese tattoo she thought meant "mysterious." It actually means strange. Oops, she did... you know.

Lily Allen

This "Shhh" tattoo would have been pretty awesome, if Rihanna hadn't just gotten the exact same one.

Lindsay Lohan

Ditto.

Johnny Depp

One of our greatest actors also made the best recovery ever after a breakup with a certain actress rendered his "Winona Forever" tattoo obsolete. Well done, sir.

Steve-O

Jackass Steve-O makes his living doing things people don't think he can or should do — including his stint on Dancing with the Stars. Do you think he cares about people who think his tat of himself is ridiculous?

Angelina Jolie

Billy Bob Thornton is so six kids ago. (She's had it removed.)

Ryan Sheckler

At least his friends can always find him on a crowded beach.

Heather Locklear

Nothing wrong with tatting a guy's name on your ankle. But please let Heather Locklear's "Finch" tattoo be a tribute to the bird, and not the character ex-boyfriend David Spade played on Just Shoot Me.

Denise Richards

You can't blame Denise Richards for thinking it would last forever with Charlie Sheen — wait, yes you can. She's reportedly covered his name with an image of a fairy.

Amy Winehouse

Winehouse was recently reported to be plotting the removal of ex-husband Blake Fielder-Civil's name from above her left breast. So it's good that she only went with his first name.

Tony Danza

Trendy phrases like "Don't Have a Cow," "It Is What It Is," and "Keep on Truckin'" (you can see it on Danza's arm if you squint) are the opposite of good ideas for tattoos. Which makes this one so wrong it's right.
