Matt Bomer
For: Bomer has been the frontrunner for the role ever since the movie was announced, with fans going so far as to create a petition to give him the part — even after Hunnam was cast. (Ouch!) From the description of Christian in the books, it's almost as if the character was written with Bomer in mind.
Against: Author Bret Easton Ellis drummed up some controversy last year when he tweeted that Bomer is "not right" for the role because in real life he's openly gay. While we find that absurd, Bomer seems less than enthusiastic about potentially taking on the part. Plus, if TPTB really wanted him, they probably would have cast him off the bat.

Henry Cavill
For: He has the smoldering good lucks any good Christian needs. And after Man of Steel's success, his name now has the cache to go along with those looks.
Against: Christian isn't just a sexy BDSM businessman. He's also a very vulnerable romantic with a troubled past. We haven't seen enough of Cavill's dramatic work to know if he can pull off the little orphan Christian act.

Ian Somerhalder
For:There's a reason fans have been campaigning for the Vampire Diaries star since the book became a hit. Not only do his piercing blue eyes and his dark hair draw you in, but his edgy charm is exactly why people fell in love with Christian Grey.
Against: His show's shooting schedule is a bit intense and the last thing we want is less Damon Salvatore.

Alex Pettyfer
For: Those abs. Those arms. Those eyes. That smile.
Against: We're not sure if anyone would buy Pettyfer as a world renowned businessman.

Leonardo DiCaprio
For: The actor has the piercing gray eyes and the range needed to play the Dom with a heart of gold.
Against: DiCaprio, while still gorgeous, is a little too old for the role.

Stephen Amell
For: He's certainly got the bod for a guy into… well, you know.
Against: He seems a little too sweet for Grey's inner bad boy.

James Deen
For: Deen has enough porn experience to make Fifty Shades of Grey seem like a walk in the park.
Against: Sure, Deen's got what it takes between the sheets, but does he actually have the acting chops to pull off the role? We know people won't be flocking to Fifty Shades for the drama, but someone with a little more experience would probably be preferable.

Chris Hemsworth
For: The man looks great in a suit, there's no denying that. Plus, we already know the Thor actor is great with his hammer.
Against: Hemsworth has already said he'd turn down the part if it was offered to him in order to avoid "typecasting" after his role as lothario James Hunt in Rush.

Robert Pattinson
For: Pattinson already showed he can pull off the sex-meets-violence thing in Breaking Dawn. Plus, he already knows how to play the piano!
Against: He already has one mega-franchise under his belt. It might be nice to get some fresh blood out there.

Alexander Skarsgard
For: The True Blood heartthrob would undoubtedly appeal to the movie's mostly female target audience, and he's not shy about getting nude on camera (as evidenced by the True Blood season finale earlier this year).
Against: Skarsgard looks nothing like E.L. James' description of Christian Grey. And since most moviegoers will be die-hard fans of the book, that could be a dealbreaker.

Armie Hammer
For: Hammer is no doubt a heartthrob, but the actor hasn't yet had an iconic role, which would allow us to enjoy his portrayal of Christian without comparisons to say, Twilight or Vampire Diaries. And think of the puns!
Against: The actor has already written off Fifty Shades as "mommy porn," saying, "I'm not going to sit on top of the laundry machine in spin cycle reading about putting a ball gag in someone's mouth."
