We loved him when he was brooding and manipulative. And after he lost his memory, we loved his charming innocence. Is there a side to him we won't enjoy? Doubtful.

Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer), True BloodWhen a Japanese scientist invents synthetic blood, vampires, including Bill, a Civil War soldier, come out of the coffin in present-day Louisiana, in an attempt to "mainstream" into society. It worked for a while, and Bill even won over Sookie (Anna Paquin). But between maenads, werewolves and witches, Bon Temps kind of went to hell. But, hey, Bill became King of Lousiana!

David (Kiefer Sutherland), The Lost BoysWhen Michael Emerson (Jason Patric) and his family move to Santa Carla, a coastal California town, they discover it chock full of alienated teens like David with a unique way of expressing their angst: vampirism.

Lestat de Lioncourt (Tom Cruise), Interview with a Vampire Cruise brought Anne Rice's French, music-loving vampire to the screen with the most important attribute: sex appeal. And then he feeds on Brad Pitt. How could this movie not have been a hit?

Spike (James Marsters), Buffy the Vampire SlayerThough Spike started out as a nemesis to Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar) and her Scooby Gang, his alliance with Angel would earn the blond bloodsucker a spot in Buffy's evil-fighting crew – and, ultimately, her bed.

Count Dracula (Gary Oldman), Bram Stoker's Dracula Perhaps the most versatile vampire on the list, we see Oldman's Dracula as a young military commander, a decrepit coffin-dweller and a smooth-talking womanizer. Despite his evil ways, it's the allure of recapturing lost love (Winona Ryder plays the reincarnation of his dead wife) that drives him. Oldman's portrayal also solidified him as a master-class villain.

Mamuwalde (William Marshall), BlaculaThe premise was plausible: An African prince crosses paths with a racist Count Dracula, who transforms him and seals him in a coffin, in which he remains for nearly two centuries until two gay interior decorators purchase his coffin and unleash his groovy fanged self on the 1970s.

Mick St. John (Alex O'Loughlin), Moonlight A modern, gentlemanly vampire, private investigator Mick refuses to let go of his humanity entirely. Unlike other vampires, he refuses to hunt women and children, and even drinks blood from the morgue. Oh, and he's just so dreamy!

Blade (Wesley Snipes), Blade Based on the comic book series, Blade is technically a dhampir, a human with vampire genetics, a result of his mother being bitten while giving birth. He becomes a vampire hunter to avenge his mother's death in a bleak urban underworld where pure-blood vampires fight humans who have transformed.

Count Dracula (Bela Lugosi), Dracula (1931) The gold standard of vampires. Lugosi's portrayal of Dracula, aided greatly by his natural Hungarian accent, was one of the first and most revered, but also typecast Lugosi as a horror-movie villain for the much of his career.

Mark Kendall (Jim Carrey), Once Bitten A hundreds-year-old vampiress (Lauren Hutton) needs three shots of a virgin's blood to keep her youthful appearance. She gets two from hapless teen Mark, who begins a comical transformation, before catching on to the countess' plan and foiling it by promptly doing the deed with his girlfriend.

Selene (Kate Beckinsale), Underworld A "death dealer," vampy Selene engages in a lifelong battle against the Lycans (werewolves) she believes killed her family. Who needs fangs when you've got guns and a hot leather bodysuit?

Santanico Pandemonium (Salma Hayek), From Dusk Till Dawn Hayek plays perhaps the only vampire stripper, who seduces her victims, including Quentin Tarantino as bank robber Richie, with her moves and one handy accessory: an albino boa.

Maximilian (Eddie Murphy), Vampire in BrooklynMaximilian has come to the New York boroughs from his native Caribbean island to track down NYPD Det. Rita Veder (Angela Bassett), the unwitting daughter of a vampire who holds the key to his continued survival. Though the pair fall in neck-biting love, Rita ultimately takes her civic duty to heart and stakes the vamp before she transforms completely.
