Vanessa Williams, Desperate Housewives

Could anything top Williams as the vainglorious Mode magazine editrix Wilhelmina Slater on the dearly departed Ugly Betty? Probably not. But her new role as Renee Perry, the newest housewife to shake up Desperate Housewives' Wisteria Lane could run a very close second.

Michael Chiklis and Julie Benz, No Ordinary Family

He was The Shield's once indomitable Vic Mackey. She played the overbearing Rita on Dexter and suffered an even more tragic end, being murdered by The Trinity Killer and left in a tub of her own blood. Catch them next as a suburban mom and pop — with super powers! — in ABC's No Ordinary Family.

Alex O'Loughlin, Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park, Hawaii Five-0 The new Hawaii Five-0 team brings together some supernatural/sci-fi heavyweights. O'Loughlin rose to fame as vampire Mick St. John on CBS' Moonlight, while Park and Kim each developed cult followings on Battlestar Galactica and Lost, respectively.

Tom Selleck, Blue Bloods

Best known for his work as a Hawaii-based private investigator on Magnum P.I., Selleck has also appeared on Friends, Las Vegas and as a lawman in several Jesse Stone TV movies. This fall on Blue Bloods, he plays the NYPD police commissioner as well as the patriarch of a family of cops.

William Shatner, $#*! My Dad Says

James T. Kirk, T.J. Hooker, Denny Crane. 'Nuff said. Will the 79-year-old Shatner be able to create yet another iconic TV character as the grumpy, foul-mouthed father inspired by Twitter?

Rob Morrow and Maura Tierney, The Whole Truth

Morrow logged six seasons on the critically acclaimed cult hit Northern Exposure before solving crimes — and equations — on Numb3rs. Tierney showed her dramatic range (and her skills with a scalpel) for a decade on ER after hitting the airwaves on NewsRadio. Now watch these two TV vets tango on the opposite sides of the law in ABC's The Whole Truth.

Dana Delany and Jeri Ryan, Body of Proof

While we’re going to miss Delany as Bree's clone-turned-colleague Katherine on Desperate Housewives, and learn to do without Ryan as Leverage's ball-busting con artist Tara, they'll both be back as crime-solving medical examiners in ABC's Body of Proof.

Jerry O'Connell and Jim Belushi, The Defenders

Belushi's coming off the extended run of his ABC sitcom According to Jim, while O'Connell (Sliders and Crossing Jordan) has had a recent string of non-starters (Carpoolers, Do Not Disturb). Together, they play a couple of Vegas attorneys who may not play by the books, but somehow their gambles pay off.

Jimmy Smits, Outlaw

He's been a TV force for three decades, starring in such TV classics as L.A. Law, NYPD Blue and The West Wing. Coming off a recent guest-star stint on Showtime's Dexter, Smits returns to network TV as former Supreme Court justice who quits because the judicial system is flawed.
10 of 15 Guy D'Alema/ABC

Michael Imperioli, Detroit 1-8-7

His most recent outing on ABC (Life on Mars) may have crash landed, but he will forever be remembered for his work as Christopher on The Sopranos. In ABC's new cop drama, Imperioli plays a veteran homicide detective who knows his stuff, but his interpersonal issues make him a bit of a misunderstood enigma.
11 of 15 Monty Brinton/CBS

Melissa McCarthy, Mike & Molly

McCarthy has been no stranger to getting laughs on Gilmore Girls and ABC's Samantha Who? She seems to be keeping that streak alive in CBS' new Chuck Lorre comedy, in which she stars as the titular Molly, an overweight school teacher whose wacky family makes losing weight a chore.
12 of 15 Joseph Viles/NBC

Blair Underwood and Laura Innes, The Event

As the conniving mogul Simon Elder, Underwood last revealed the big secret of Dirty Sexy Money — Nick’s dad wasn’t dead! — right before ABC pulled the plug on the primetime soap. Innes was afforded a better goodbye as Dr. Kerry Weaver on the series finale of ER. They’ll team for the NBC’s super secret thriller The Event this fall.
13 of 15 Jack Rowand/The CW

Ashley Tisdale, Hellcats

In High School Musical, Tisdale played the divalicious Sharpay Evans — a role she isn't quite finished with yet; Disney Channel recently announced Tisdale to star in her own HSM-spin-off TV movie, Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure. In Hellcats she'll do a 180 and play uptight cheerleading star Savannah.
14 of 15 Ed Araquel/Fox

Will Arnett and Keri Russell, Running Wilde

Imagine if Arnett's Gob Bluthe and Russell's Felicity Porter grew up and fell in — and out — of love. OK, that would never happen, but if it did, it might look something like the Fox comedy Running Wilde. The show follows Arnett's Steve, a spoiled and immature playboy, as he tries to win back Russell's Emmy, his childhood sweetheart-turned- humanitarian.
15 of 15 Joe Viles/Fox

Jon Voight and Adrianne Palicki, Lone Star

He's a big-screen star who recently guest-starred in 24's penultimate season and is perhaps best known for his role in Varsity Blues. She's the sexy Tyra Collette on NBC's Friday Night Lights, another Texas football drama. In Lone Star, they stay in Texas as an oil tycoon and his daughter, both of whom are being played by her con-man husband.
