After being stabbed in the eye with a shard of glass by Michonne in the midseason finale of The Walking Dead, The Governor will soon don the iconic eye patch the character wears in the comic books that inspired the AMC series. To celebrate, we rounded up our other favorite TV and movie cyclopses.

Reason for Eye Patch: According to the character's comic book roots, Fury's eye was injured by a grenade blast during World War II. After losing 95 percent of his vision in the afflicted eye, he began covering it.

Reason for Eye Patch: Although no specific incident is ever mentioned, the Charles Portis novel that inspired both the 1969 John Wayne film and its 2010 remake suggests Cogburn injured his eye during a skirmish in the Civil War while fighting under Confederate guerilla leader William Quantrill.

Eye Patch Girl aka Jillian (Allison Williams), The Mindy Project Reason for Eye Patch: Every athletic New Yorker's worst nightmare: Jillian was jogging in Central Park when a pigeon flew into her eye.

Reason for Eye Patch: He lost his eye in a knife fight when he and his best friend Bo Brady were competing for the same woman. Though he received a glass eye for a short time, it was eventually broken, and he resumed wearing the patch.

Reason for Eye Patch: His eye was ripped out by the Cylons while he was being interrogated and tortured for committing crimes of terrorism against them.

Reason for Eye Patch: According to the movie, he is injured during an attack in Tunisia during World War II. His injuries resulted in the loss of his eye, right hand and two fingers on his left hand.

Commander Francesca "Franky" Cook (Angelina Jolie), Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow Reason for Eye Patch: Unknown

Reason for Eye Patch: His eye was gouged out by a superhumanly strong evil priest played by Nathan Fillion. Fun fact: The writers originally intended to kill Xander off, but decided he was too important to the show. All it cost him was an eye!

Reason for Eye Patch: His oft-misplaced wooden eye was actually Captain Barbossa's "Piece of Eight," used to free Calypso in Dead Man's Chest. Once it was used, Ragetti dons the eye patch to cover his empty eye socket. Argh!

Alastor "Mad-Eye" Moody (Brendan Gleeson), The Harry Potter Series Reason for Eye Patch: He lost his eye in the First Wizarding War, and replaced it with a magical eye.

Reason for Eye Patch: She lost her eye while cleaning her cat's litter box.

Reason for Eye Patch: After disrespecting her martial arts tutor, Pai Mei, her eye was plucked out.

Reason for Eye Patch: His character is an homage to the James Bond villain in Thunderball. It is believed that he can actually see with his covered eye, as the patch is rigged with X-ray vision in the first film.

Daniel "Big Dan" Teague (John Goodman), O Brother Where Art Thou? Reason for Eye Patch: Unknown, but we have to give props to the Coen Brothers for working in The Odyssey's Cyclops so creatively.

Reason for Eye Patch: Though never noted in the movie, the novelization of the film offers a backstory that sees Snake lose his eye in the Battle for Leningrad in World War III.

Reason for Eye Patch: Unknown. Perhaps he lost his eye fighting with the Soviets in Afghanistan (though his history could be a lie) or when "purging" the DHARMA initiative from the island with the rest of the Others.
