After being stabbed in the eye with a shard of glass by Michonne in the midseason finale of The Walking Dead, The Governor will soon don the iconic eye patch the character wears in the comic books that inspired the AMC series. To celebrate, we rounded up our other favorite TV and movie cyclopses.

Reason for Eye Patch: According to the character's comic book roots, Fury's eye was injured by a grenade blast during World War II. After losing 95 percent of his vision in the afflicted eye, he began covering it.

Rooster Cogburn (Jeff Bridges), True Grit

Reason for Eye Patch: Although no specific incident is ever mentioned, the Charles Portis novel that inspired both the 1969 John Wayne film and its 2010 remake suggests Cogburn injured his eye during a skirmish in the Civil War while fighting under Confederate guerilla leader William Quantrill.
