90s-stars-intro1

Dancing with the Stars is pitting Winnie Cooper against DJ Tanner in the ultimate 90s face-off this season. But The Wonder Years alum Danica McKellar and Full House's Candace Cameron Bure aren't the only familiar faces back on our screens. Look back at some of your favorite '90s stars and see where they are now that the acid wash has faded and Sassy isn't here to document their every move.

Mark Paul Gosselaar and Tiffani Thiessen

For a certain generation, this Saved by the Bell duo was the most shipped couple on TV — before shipping even existed! For Gosselaar, finding a role after his Zack Morris days proved to be tough, but after a few stumbles (including the ill-fated College Years), he ultimately scored roles on NYPD Blue and Raising the Bar, the latter of which led to his current starring role on Franklin & Bash. For Thiessen, she went the anti-Kelly Kapowski route as the sexy and mischievous Valerie Malone on 90210. A few bit parts later, she landed on USA's popular White Collar.

Neil Patrick Harris

Long before he suited up as the legendary Barney Stinson on How I Met Your Mother, Harris donned a white coat and stethoscope to play precocious teen doc Doogie Howser, who spent his formative years saving lives rather than chasing girls (Barney would never!). Back then, he didn't have a Playbook or The Bro Code, but his famous computer diary. Unlike some, NPH is not ashamed of his early work and even paid homage to it on HIMYM.

James Van Der Beek

He was the Beek of the Creek, stealing the hearts of young, impressionable women whose formative years were spent searching for their version of Dawson Leery. But after six seasons of being an offbeat film major heartthrob on Dawson's Creek, The Beek mostly laid low, resurfacing for bit parts on One Tree Hill and How I Met Your Mother before making a splash playing himself on Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23. He'll next star on CBS' Friends with Better Lives playing a lowly gynecologist who's been cheated on one too many times.

Hayden Panettiere

Before she was Nashville's Juliette Barnes (or even cheerleader Claire Bennet on Heroes), Panettiere got her first big-screen role at age 10 in Disney's football flick Remember the Titans, as the daughter of assistant coach Bill Yoast (Will Patton). Aside from her appearance, not much has changed about the roles Panettiere takes on. As the opinionated, outspoken Sheryl Yoast in Titans, the actress displayed just as much sass as Juliette!

Josh Charles

While there's no doubt Charles looked adorable in his Clown Dog uniform in Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead and captured our attention behind Sports Night's anchor desk, it wasn't until the actor suited up for The Good Wife that he finally became the breakout star he deserves to be. Charles' portrayal of the now-bitter lawyer Will Gardner even earned the actor recent Golden Globe and SAG nominations.

Mayim Bialik

As a child actress, Bialik pretty much taught a young generation about dealing with issues ranging from drugs, divorce and abuse through her titular and quirky character on Blossom. But she just as quickly disappeared from the entertainment business, choosing instead to focus on completing her PhD. She made a triumphant return on The Big Bang Theory as Dr. Amy Farrah Fowler, a love interest for Sheldon, a role that has earned the actress two Emmy nominations.

Claire Danes

Danes broke out on My So-Called Life as the average high school student Angela Chase who suddenly upsets the status quo her sophomore year by dyeing her hair bright red, dumping her friends for cooler ones and swooning over and eventually dating hottie Jordan Catalano (Jared Leto). The angst-ridden show challenged the idea of a happy-go-lucky teen experience and also gave the parents their own story lines. Today, Danes stars as bipolar CIA officer Carrie Mathison on Showtime's political thriller Homeland.

Melissa Joan Hart and Joey Lawrence

As the star of teen sitcom Clariss Explains It All Hart helped catapult Nickelodeon beyond being just a game show network. Although Hart worked steadily (including starring on Sabrina, the Teenage Witch), Lawrence struggled shake his dumb hunk persona from Blossom. (Can we get a "Whoa!"?) Eventually, Lawrence embraced the'90s nostalgia angle he had going for him and teamed up with Hart on Melissa and Joey.

Scott Wolf

It's hard to believe Party of Five is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, because the baby-faced Wolf (who played second-eldest brother Bailey Salinger on the family drama) doesn't look like he's aged more than a day. Currently starring on TNT's Perception, Wolf plays Assistant U.S. Attorney Donnie Ryan, the ex-husband of fellow '90s darling Rachael Leigh Cook.

Tim Allen

Following his role on Home Improvement, Allen stuck mainly to voice work and Christmas films before returning to ABC for Last Man Standing. On the sitcom, Allen stars as Mike Baxter, a father of three daughters and a man's man marketing director for a sporting goods store — not too far a cry from Tim "The Tool Man" Taylor, if you ask us. But we aren't complaining!

Julia Louis-Dreyfuss

The big hair. The shoulder pads. All those floral prints. Everything about Louis-Dreyfuss' beloved Seinfeld alter-ego screams '90s. No one would have blamed the SNL vet for falling prey to the Seinfeld curse that plagued so many of her colleagues, but instead Louis-Dreyfuss bounced back in 2012 with the HBO comedy Veep. She has already earned two Emmys for playing the insecure, clueless, fumbling Vice President Selina Meyer. She may never be able to top Elaine, but it's nice to see she's finally found a worthy second act.

Patrick Duffy,

Duffy may have gotten his first big break playing Bobby Ewing on the original Dallas, but to a certain generation, he's beloved for his role as the Lambert family patriarch on Step by Step. After the TGIF comedy ended, Duffy took minor parts before landing a role on The Bold and the Beautiful. But then Duffy's career came full circle and he reprised his role as Bobby Ewing on the TNT Dallas reboot, which is now in its third season.

Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny

Anderson and Duchovny rose to fame as paranormal investigators Scully and Mulder on The X-Files. While both have gone on to other leading TV roles, their current characters are more, shall we say, down to earth. Duchovny has played womanizer Hank Moody on Showtime's Californication since 2007, while Anderson is starring in NBC's upcoming thriller Crisis this spring.

Alyssa Milano

Milano bewitched viewers as Phoebe on Charmed, but when the show was canceled, the magic faded and Milano's career struggled. She's since found a home on the ABC drama Mistresses and as the host of Project Runway: All-Stars. In a surprising move, the actress also recently released Hacktivist, a comic book she wrote inspired by the rogue internet collective Anonymous.

Sarah Michelle Gellar

As the titular heroine of Joss Whedon's Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Gellar played a slayer whose puns were as badass as her martial arts skills. After years of being every little girl's hero, Gellar turned her attention to movie roles before making a return to television on the short-lived CW series Ringer and her current starring role as Robin Williams' daughter on The Crazy Ones.

Lizzy Caplan

Caplan starred on the one-season high school comedy Freaks and Geeks as a love interest for Jason Segal's Nick. After another short-lived stint on The Class and a memorable turn on True Blood, Caplan now stars on Showtime's Masters of Sex. She plays Virgina Johnson, the real-life sex researcher who teamed up with William Masters to study human sexual response.

Tina Majorino

Majorino began her career as a child actor in everyone's favorite seal buddy film, Andre. Though she quit acting in 1999, Majorino returned when she landed the role of Mac on Veronica Mars in 2004. In addition to reprising the role for the upcoming film, Majorino has also recently appeared on True Blood, Bones and, most recently, as the late intern Heather Brooks on Grey's Anatomy.

Lacey Chabert

Chabert literally grew up before our eyes, first kiss and all, playing the precocious Claudia Salinger on the Fox drama Party of Five. Just a few years after the show ended, Chabert surprised us with on the big screen with her hilarious turn as Gretchen Wiener in Mean Girls. These days the 31-year-old actress can be seen recurring on ABC Family's Baby Daddy.

Shawn Ashmore

Ashmore — not to be confused with his twin brother and Warehouse 13 star Aaron — rose to fame as Jake on Animorphs. He went on to star as Iceman in the X-Men franchise and will reprise the role for the upcoming film Days of Future Past. Ashmore currently stars as FBI agent Mike Weston on The Following, where he proves he can tackle evil without the aid of shapeshifting and ice powers.

Larisa Oleynik

There was no one cooler to spend your Saturday nights (remember SNICK?) with in the '90s than Oleynik's Alex Mack, the tomboy, beanie-loving teen who developed powers, which included turning into a puddle, after getting doused in the faux chemical GC-161. Oleynik opted to end The Secret Life of Alex Mack in 1998 to return to school before "whelming" us in another '90s favorite, 10 Things I Hate About You (which reunited her with Joseph Gordon-Levitt, whose girlfriend she played on 3rd Rock From the Sun). After laying low for almost a decade, she resurfaced as Ken Cosgrove's wife Cynthia on Mad Men, doomed CIA agent Jenna Kaye on Hawaii Five-0 and Ezra's ex Maggie on Pretty Little Liars.

Christopher Gorham

Gorham rolled with the uncool crowd on the WB series Popular as Harrison John, a sweet, socially awkward and leukemia-ridden guy who had harbored a crush on Queen Bee Brooke (Leslie Bibb) all his life. These days, Gorham's blind CIA agent Auggie only has eyes (no pun intended) for Annie (Piper Perabo) on Covert Affairs. In real life, though, he's married to his Popular co-star Anel Lopez Gorham.

Shiri Appleby

Before there was Star-Crossed, there was Roswell. While Appleby, who starred as lovesick Liz Parker on the alien drama, never quite gained the same level of fame as co-stars Colin Hanks and Katherine Heigl, she's recently had a bit of a career resurgence. After brief runs on ER's final season and the CW series Life Unexpected and a recurring role on Chicago Fire, Appleby was absolutely unforgettable as Adam's girlfriend Natalia on Girls' second and third season. Here's hoping Natalia comes back again to continue her verbal attack on her "feral" ex.

Anna Chlumsky

Anna Chlumsky became America's sweetheart as the baby-faced star of the 1991 coming-of-age story My Girl. As Vada, an 11-year-old girl struggling with the death of her mother, and later, her best friend, she delivered an unforgettable performance before she left acting in the late '90s to go to college. Thankfully, Chlumsky eventually returned to the stage and the screen, this time to show off her comedy chops. In HBO's brilliant political satire Veep, the actress gets to show off both her dramatic and comedic range as Vice President Selina Meyers' tireless, overworked, underappreciated Chief of Staff who will do anything and everything to help her boss keep out of trouble and on the ticket.
