Two full-grown men who are forced to cross-dress as women to get by? Yes, at first the very short-lived ABC sitcom sounds exactly like Tom Hanks' breakthrough role way back in 1980. Upon closer inspection, however, there's one big difference: Bosom Buddies was actually funny. ABC canceled the series after two episodes.

Neither had a hit record in 2012. Neither had an episode of Glee dedicated to them. But Elton John and Madonna still managed to make headlines for… fighting with each other. Their spat started in January when Madonna took home the Golden Globe Award for best song over John, after which his partner took to Facebook and wrote "Best song???? F--- off!!!" In August, John likened the Material Girl to a "fairground stripper." Madonna forgave him publicly days later at one of her concerts, but then performed the song with which she defeated John at the Globes. Maybe the two living legends can turn over a new leaf in 2013?

After a brief détente, Bourdain and Deen went at it again when the butter-loving chef agreed to endorse a diabetes medication. Unhappy with Deen's decision, Bourdain tweeted: "Thinking of getting into the leg-breaking business, so I can profitably sell crutches later." The No Reservations star called Deen "greedy" for continuing to endorse the unhealthy eating habits that led to her disease. Deen responded by calling the remarks "very, very cruel."

Celibacy isn't always fashionable, but Tim Gunn has "made it work" for 29 years. On an episode of ABC's now-defunct talk show The Revolution, Project Runway's avuncular mentor made the brave confession that he's gone without sex for nearly three decades after a particularly heart-wrenching breakup. But don't cry for him, Argentina. Gunn insists that he's a "perfectly happy, fulfilled individual" who, you know, channels all of his pent-up frustrations into pairing pin-striped jackets with the perfect shade of pocket square.

After splitting with Ashton Kutcher in late 2011, Moore started 2012 off with a downward spiral, culminating in a brief stint in rehab after she was hospitalized for inhaling nitrous oxide. The drug, more commonly known as whip-its, was a surprising choice for someone of Demi's social status or age (she was 49 at the time). Whip-its are popular among teenagers looking for an easy thrill since they're cheap and easily accessible (a simple whipped cream can will do). Then again, Moore was never one to act her age.

M.I.A. flips the world the bird during the Super Bowl halftime show Sorry, Madonna. 2012 was just not your year. Months before Elton John called her a "fairground stripper", Madonna had to deal with a whole different kind of bad press after her Super Bowl halftime show. Madonna invited rapper M.I.A. to perform with her on the show as one of several special guests, but M.I.A. stole a little too much of the pop star's thunder when she flipped off the world. Not only did the move draw criticism from the normally controversy-friendly Madonna, who called the move a "teenager" thing to do, but also hit a little too close to home for those millions still upset over Janet Jackson's wardrobe malfunction way back in 2004.

Apparently someone didn't get the memo that Punk'd was canceled in 2007. Dressed in full costume from The Dictator, the incident was just Cohen's unique way of promoting his new comedy. However, no one was laughing when he picked the hyper-image-conscious Seacrest as his target. Not only did the stunt fail miserably on the red carpet and make for some awkward live TV, but it also failed to generate interest for The Dictator, which went on to make less than $60 million in the U.S.

It might seem innocent, but it was a very big deal when the former Disney Channel golden boy confirmed his, uh, manhood and dropped a rubber in public. Following his very public break-up with Vanessa Hudgens, it not only begged the question of who he was sleeping with, but just how many condoms were in his pocket that that they would fall out?

The Growing Pains alum and staunch born-again Christian drew ire after telling Piers Morgan that homosexuality is "unnatural" and "ultimately destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization." He went on to deride same-sex marriage, but later clarified his remarks when they caused a firestorm. "I love all people; I hate no one," he said. Morgan, though, had his own take on the matter, tweeting: "Re #KirkCameron, I respect his religious beliefs - just don't respect his use of bigoted, inflammatory language re homosexuality. End."

Travolta's legal troubles were seemingly neverending in 2012. In May, two masseurs sued Travolta for assault and sexual battery, claiming the Grease star tried to have sex with them after hiring them for (separate) massages. Then in June, a cruise employee sued the actor for allegedly making sexual advances toward him in 2009, when the attendant delivered food to Travolta's cabin. All three suits were eventually dropped, but in December, Doug Gotterba — who served as Travolta's pilot for six years in the 1980s — also sued the actor. In his lawsuit, which is ongoing, Gotterba said he received a threatening letter from Travolta's attorney after he gave a tell-all interview to the National Enquirer, claiming he and Travolta carried on a secret sexual relationship for years.

In an interview with Elle UK, the Mad Men star referred to the two heiresses as "f---ing idiots." While Hamm's comments were about reality television and pop culture in general, Kardashian took to Twitter to defend herself. "Calling someone who runs their own businesses, is a part of a successful TV show, produces, writes, designs, and creates, 'stupid,' is in my opinion careless," she wrote. Hamm responded with a half-hearted apology. "I don't know Ms. Kardashian, I know her public persona," he later told E! News. "What I said was meant to be more on pervasiveness of something in our culture, not personal, but she took offense to it and that is her right."

As if women around the world weren't swooning enough over heartthrob George Clooney, the actor and activist won over even more admirers when he was arrested at a protest at the Sudanese Embassy in March. The actor was released hours later and paid a $100 fine to avoid jail time, but just the thought of one of the former World's Sexiest Men Alive in handcuffs? Let's just say we love a man of action.

When Leah Remini was not asked to return for Season 2 of CBS's daytime chat fest The Talk, Remini specifically blamed Osbourne for her and Holly Robinson Peete's departures, saying Osbourne thought she and Robinson were "ghetto". Remini added: "She has the power that was given to her." Osbourne denied the accusations online, and Remini agreed to move on, but not without one last parting shot. "If she wanted to clear it up she has my number and has had all this time and didn't use it. Not even to say she was sorry. … Well done Sharon, you won." Too bad in this case we're all losers. Well, except for new co-hosts Aisha Tyler and Sheryl Underwood.

Rosie O'Donnell just can't seem to find a talk show gig that lasts. Rosie took over Oprah's old stomping ground in Chicago, but her show was only able to draw around 200,000 viewers a day in its final month. Maybe she should have given away cars!

Has The Blair Witch Project, Paranormal Activity or, hell, even The Office taught us nothing? Documentary-style shooting doesn't necessarily mean that what's being filmed is real. When Animal Planet presented its speculative documentary Mermaids: The Body Found in May, viewers were in a tizzy, searching online the next day to verify the horrifically ghoulish images, scientific reproduction theories and shaky handheld phone videos. Hook. Line. Sinker.

In July, Willard was arrested in an adult movie theater after police claimed he was exposing himself. The arrest had a negative impact on Willard's career almost immediately: PBS fired him as the narrator of Market Warriors, saying "his presence would become a distraction," and two weeks after the incident, ABC pulled the final two episodes of his comedy improv series Trust Us With Your Life. True to form, the comedian later cracked jokes about the incident, but still maintains his innocence. "It's very embarrassing," he told Jimmy Fallon. "It's embarrassing as hell. But let me say this: nothing happened. I did nothing wrong. Everything is being sorted out as we speak. ... If you're in the wrong place at the wrong time, everything looks suspicious." He was eventually offered the option of attending counseling sessions in order to avoid formal charges.

Art imitated life for LL Cool J in August. The actor, who plays Special Agent Sam Hanna on NCIS: Los Angeles, took the law into his own hands when a burglar broke into his house. LL managed to detain the intruder until police arrived, breaking his nose and jaw in the process. Ouch!
