So You Think You Can Dance Episode Recap: Week 4 Results

Who is lucky enough to be among the Top 12 dancers? After some pretty impressive dancing last night it's time to see who the voters put in the bottom three.

But first, let's get to the group dance.

Choreographer/Genre:
Tyce Diorio/Broadway
Title/Artist: "Brand New Day"/The Wiz (Original Soundtrack)
Performance: High energy. Great use of the stage. Unlike the chain in Phillip and Jeanine's piece yesterday, I feel like this prop really works and it used well. Very enjoyable.

So who will be dancing for their lives this week?

Karla and Vitolio: I'm disappointed but not surprised. Nigel thinks their routine was terrific. They'll have to fight for their places in next week's show.

Kayla and Kupono: Perhaps their piece last night was too dark and strange for voters but I loved everything about it. I'm very disappointed they're in the bottom. Mia is utterly shocked because she feels they were the best performance of last night. They couldn't have done anything better.

Jeanine and Phillip: I think people were either distracted by that chain or perhaps they assumed Jeanine and Phillip would be safe so they didn't vote for them. Mary thinks it's ironic that these two are in the bottom this week but she can't wait to see Phillip's solo.

Featured performers of the week: Patricia Hashian and Desmond Richardson choreographed by Dwight Rhoden and Desmond Richardson
Title/Song: "Caprice in E Minor, Op. 1 No. 3"/Midori
Performance: They are so strong and their technique is pretty amazing. It's hard to look away long enough to write down my thoughts. Interesting partner work but possibly too modern for me. I feel guilty about not loving it and I am distracted by their costumes. Still extremely impressive though.

The solos:

Karla
"Blackbird"/Dionne Farris
Totally strange but I like her technique. I feel like it's over too soon.

Vitolio
"Here Comes Goodbye"/Rascal Flatts
Great emotion and good technique but I expected more.

Kayla
"Stupid"/Sarah McLaughlin
I'm so happy she's not throwing all her tricks into the mix this time but something is off. Liked it. Didn't love it.

Kupono
"Somewhere Over the Rainbow"/Israel Kamakawiwo'ole
So far his solos have been extremely disappointing. Stop all that emoting and start doing some serious dancing.

Jeanine
"Moonlight Sonata"/Smart Sleep With Classical
Great technique. I think I saw a few bobbles from nerves, but it is very nice. I'm glad we got to see her solo tonight.

Phillip
You'll Find a Way (Switch and Sinden Remix)"/Santigold
Strange and cool. It's not the best we've seen him do his own style, but it was still enjoyable.

This week's musical performer is Kelly Clarkson. I'm a fan, but as there are no dancers I feel no need to comment further.

The girls' results
The judges are unanimous. Jeanine has the strongest performance amongst the girls. Kayla is a favorite but she was static in her solo tonight. Karla is a very, very good dancer, but she hasn't captured that star quality they expected, so they're sending her home.

The guys' results
The judges are unanimous again. Phillip's solo is a little desperate, despite him being brilliant in his own style. Kupono has a weak solo. They need to see more passion. Vitolio always presents himself brilliantly, but doesn't deliver, so they're sending him home.

Are you happy with tonight's results? I did enjoy last night's quick step, but once again it has proven to be the kiss of death. I think the judges made the right decision in sending Karla and Vitolio home. I still see a lot of great things in Kayla and Kupono's future but if Phillip doesn't start living up to his full potential he, and by default this partner, will be in trouble — at least until we reach the Top 10. And I can't wait for that.

P.S. I heart Cat and I enjoyed her silvery minidress. Adorable.

Don't forget to vote for your favorite dancer in the poll below and check back next week for the latest batch of Power Rankings.
