January 7, 2007: Lifestyles of the Rich and Penniless

A grueling and intense Season 3 of The L Word went out with quite a she-bang last year, and I really couldn't begin to guess how or where this season would begin. Quite honestly, I'm still shocked that we lost Dana to breast cancer, and I miss her already.

So wow, where to begin after tonight's episode hit the ground running?

First of all, here's Papi! Also, Our Chart is real, check it out. It's currently down at about 10:30/CT, but I'm sure that's from network overload from everyone's curiosity after seeing it in tonight's premiere (brilliant cross-platform promotion in action, there).

My favorite L Word relationship right now is Helena and Alice, two polar opposites with great chemistry and wonderful comedic timing. When Helena was first introduced as the tyrant that she once was, I really did not enjoy watching her, because she seemed too much like a caricature. Once the writers began to soften her up and make her seem more like a real (though filthy rich) person, to my surprise she became one of my favorites. Pairing her with Alice is sheer brilliance, and making her penniless sheer genius. It will be interesting (to say the least) to see how this story pans out, and I look forward to having some good giggles when those two take up some screen time. "More coffee?" "I don't think I can afford it." "Helena, it's free." Hilarious!

Poor Shane, back in the spiral again. Yep, just what you need is "snow," Shane. Jeez. And now she's "with child." Wow, who saw that coming? I really hope that Eric Roberts pays another visit or two to The L Word. He is so perfect as Shane's dad it's spooky how much they even talk alike - and I'd love to see more of him.

I am still floored by that scene in the women's clinic. Go, Kit! You get 'em, girl. You know, the reason I started watching The L Word to begin with is because I've had a crush on Pam Grier for years. I love Kit, I love Pam as Kit, and I love Kit with Angus. Angus is one of the coolest male characters on TV right now, and I hope his band kicks some arse on MySpace!

I'm really excited to see what Cybil Shepherd and Marlee Matlin will contribute to the cast this year. Two fabulous and gorgeous women to add to an already stellar cast. I have a feeling that, although there will be plenty of drama (Tina and Bette are practically at "war of the roses" levels right now), the writers may be giving us some really light and funny story lines as well, to help us all breathe after an emotionally turbulent last season. I'm really excited that the wait is over, and am ready for the ride!

So tell me, L Word fans, what are your thoughts on the premiere episode?
