April 24, 2007: House Training

I think it's safe to say that tonight's show was a bit of a downer. If the unnecessary death of Lupe ( Monique Gabriela Curnen), a young, economically depressed woman, doesn't convince you of that, then maybe the presence of Foreman's Alzheimer-stricken mother (Beverly Todd) will.

Lupe entered the hospital exhibiting all sorts of worrisome symptoms that baffled the doctors. At Foreman's insistence they treated her to a dosage of full-body radiation to kill the suspected cancer. But only after destroying her auto-immune system did they realize that the source of her distress was an infection. Their treatment effectively killed her. So this time it was Foreman sitting at a dying patient's bedside. (Remember that Cameron is now emotionally unavailable for such things.) The situation provided for some fine moments from a wrecked Foreman who was already struggling with the effects of his visiting mother's dementia.

Meanwhile, House struggled to identify the true nature of Wilson and Cuddy's emerging relationship. Are they dating, or are they just two friends spending time together at art galleries? To understand Wilson's ways with women, House hires Bonnie ( Jane Adams), the second ex-Mrs. Wilson and New Jersey's worst Realtor, to shop for a condo while pumping her for information. Friendship, Bonnie revealed, is the key to Wilson's appeal, but sex pre-friendship will kill the potential for a long-term affair. Can't wait to see how House puts this tidbit of information to use.

The opposite, of course, is true for Chase, who has taken to giving an uninterested Cameron weekly reminders that he's still interested in pursuing a real relationship with her. Perhaps Cameron is protesting too much, but least the pair have stopped bickering in front of their coworkers.

In between these stories we learned a few things about our favorite doctors, such as the fact that Chase still prays for comfort and that Foreman, for all his cockiness, is still unsure of the success he's achieved. Thanks to Bonnie, we now know that House's neediness factored into the breakup of Wilson's marriage. The big question is, will House's neediness keep Wilson and Cuddy apart?

What did you think of tonight's show? Are you disturbed that House can feel guilty enough to take Wilson's dog Hector yet not feel guilty about a misdiagnosis that caused a patient's death?
