October 24, 2006: Sometimes a Pickle Is Just a Pickle

Remember how last week I'd said that Chris knows how to give good romance? Well, apparently so does Logan. Sweet: calling Rory from London and insisting she run to the rooftop to watch a meteor shower together. (One question: England is five hours ahead. Would they really be able to see it at the same time?) Even sweeter: finding Logan there, along with a candlelit dinner and trees decorated with white lights. No real meteor shower, but sparks do fly between the two. Now, I've always admitted that I am not a Logan fan. But I am impressed by his efforts. So imagine how annoyed I am when Rory turns out to be the big baby. Who cares if one of Logan's business partners is a hot blonde who uses her long, sexy legs to close deals. (Freud would have a field day with that one. And maybe with the pickles in Stars Hollow, too. What was the point of that?) Well, OK, I can see why Rory would be threatened, considering Logan never mentioned that Bobby was a woman. (Not like Bobby Kennedy, Bobby Knight or Bobby Brown, as Rory stupidly points out.) And Logan's not exactly known for keeping it in his pants. (Before you Logan Ladies freak on me, I have one word for you: bridesmaids.) So OK, a little jealousy is warranted. But Rory didn't have to ruin the entire night by sulking through dinner and then lecturing Logan afterwards. ("She called us adorable! That's what you say about an episode of Full House, not a serious relationship!" she pouts.) I mean, really. The guy's only in town for just 26 hours and this is how she spends their evening? Bloody shame, as Bobby might say.

At least Lorelai and Chris managed to salvage their night. Clearly Lorelai was picking a fight with Chris on the way over to Friday-night dinner. He was calm while explaining his reasons for sending Gigi to Paris to be with her mother for two months. Lorelai was the one yelling and freaking out about the "18-year-old nanny" (who's really 25) taking the kid abroad. Then she sulks through dinner before it finally hits her: Chris wasn't abandoning his daughter the way he'd left Rory all those years ago. He'd changed; they weren't the teens who'd once broke into her father's 10-year-old bottle of wine. The best part: Chris already knows that. So in this relationship, Lorelai's not the self-actualized one. There's a change. Not that Chris isn't learning a thing or two from his girlfriend. Going to Paris and taking Lorelai with him is much better for his child. And if you haven't read the spoilers, well, I'm going to stop right... here.
