Double 0 Fashion

This week's challenge was to design for a fashion legend. While we viewers already knew who this would be, as Bravo hasn't left any surprises this season, the designers were once again left to guess. Travelling through the meat-packing district, Blayne voiced his love for Mary-Kate, hoping she would be the legend to design for. I guess these days kids in their twenties are considered legends. Not quite. Once inside their destination, out came Diane von Furstenberg, queen of the wrap dress. The task? To create a look for her fall collection that was inspired by the film A Foreign Affair.

Instead of the usual trip to Mood, the designers got to choose their fabrics from DVF's own sample room. It was a good thing she wasn't there to witness her precious materials strewn about in a fury. To Kenley, this challenge was a dream. At first I found her tears and sentiment sweet, but she literally did not stop crying which got a little old after awhile.

Back in the studio, Suede decided to focus on Berlin and camouflage. Amazingly, his use of third person is barely fazing me at this point. Terri had no doubt she could win because of the androgyny that the look called for, which she says is her thing. Too bad everyone else is tired of her "one trick pony" outfit of a blazer and pants. Leanne, who has immunity from last week, seems to be transforming before our eyes. Flying under the radar the first few episodes, she's now turned into the Leanimal who knocks out killer looks. The best moment of the night by far, was when Tim showed some concern towards Stella's garment, especially after last week the judges felt it wasn't cohesive. Her response? That not only were they clueless but that the "stylist with the oversized moo moo dress and waste band ( Rachel Zoe) didn't know any better." I love that she says what's on her mind to Tim.

The runway show proved to be pretty successful with only two real misses. Terri, Blayne and Jerell (who has an obsession for abnormally tiny hats) were all safe. Once again Korto executed a great garment that Fern Mallis, filling in for Nina, felt would be perfect for international as well as New York. I liked her splash of yellow as well. Kenley thought she nailed it and though she made a cute dress, it didn't seem to completely fit the mold of the DVF collection. Alas, she was safe. Leanne was definitely my favorite of the night with that gorgeous midnight blue gown. She won again and has proved to be a serious contender. Joe and Stella were left in the bottom two. Once again Joe took the challenge way too literally. Similar to the Olympics week, he designed a garment which was okay but certainly didn't have that wow factor. He was able to make it one more week though as Stella, whose entire look was a major misstep according to Michael Kors, was auf'd. I personally don't think it really mattered which of the two were eliminated since I couldn't see either making it to fashion week. Do you agree? Comment away.
