October 31, 2006: Liz Cruz

You knew it was inevitable that Michelle would maneuver Burt's death, but I didn't think it would be so soon. I was really digging Larry Hagman in the role, but this doesn't mean he can't come back for some fabulous Nip/Tuck dream sequences. When Michelle told Francis the nurse to go home and that she'd take care of giving Burt his pills, I knew Michelle was lying. Poor Burt had to crawl out of bed and attempt the stairs by himself just to try to take those dang pills. Too late. Burt died a dramatically painful death while his wife, Michelle, just stared at him. But taking Burt's kidney saved her dear Christian's life. Excellent timing with that text message from James to the "whore"/staff member with the razor blade who was having sex with Christian: "Abort." Since James had 24 hours to give those two mysterious French-speaking Asian-American dudes "one more kidney" to meet their quota, mission accomplished. So this means Christian still doesn't know James and Michelle are the organ thieves. Here's hoping they wrap that story up soon since it gives me a kind of Carver vibe (enough already). I did like that Christian got back at James for drugging him by filling her car with all that medical waste. Eww. Best Jacqueline Bisset line was earlier when she took a peak at Christian's package when he was passed out: "Very impressive - perhaps another time when you're more up to it."

So Julia had sex with Marlowe - how... lovely. I promise not to make any "shortcomings" jokes - that would be in poor taste. Clueless Sean was the one who encouraged Julia to see that movie with Marlowe in the first place. When the two of them made out during the movie, it reminded me of how long it's been since I've made out with anyone at a movie theater. Oh, sorry... back to the show. Of course Julia wasn't thrilled when Sean told her Marlowe wanted leg-lengthening surgery. But she certainly put a stop to that. I bet that "tall Marlowe" dream sequence was challenging but fun to film. I was waiting for Julia to spill the beans to Sean at the very end that she slept with Marlowe, but she cut it short and just said she went to Marlowe's place and then needed to shower (hmmm), which caused Sean to give her a suspicious look. A few of you asked if they gave Connor the corrective surgery on both hands, but we got that answer tonight - one down, one to go.

Continuing with the " Nip/Tuck is the new Will & Grace" theme, guest star Alanis Morissette began the first of three appearances as Poppy, Liz's new girlfriend. Isn't it ironic (you knew that was coming) that Poppy is also an anesthesiologist, like Liz? Liz finally gets a girlfriend (as Christian put it: "Did hell freeze over?") and the girlfriend ends up being not so nice about Liz's imperfections, causing Liz to get lipo for the first time and participate in a 5K run.

Unfortunately, that not-so-nice-ness occurs when Liz isn't around or is under anesthesia. I wanted Sean to tell Liz the complete truth about Poppy rather than just hint that she was being overly critical and rude about Liz's body (like referring to Liz as a Teletubby - charming). How soon before Liz discovers the real Poppy? Two episodes from now, I bet.

Almost every week we get a classic song played during a pivotal moment, and this week it was Billy Joel's "Just the Way You Are" brilliantly heard during Liz's lipo: "Don't go changin'... to try and please me...." Perfect. I'm surprised they haven't used it before. I've performed that song at two wedding receptions, but I never thought the lyrics would pertain so perfectly to plastic surgery... until now.
