November 21, 2006: Diana Lubey

There are two types of Nip/Tuck dream sequences. The first is the kind used on most TV shows - when a character is asleep and is dreaming (or having a nightmare), and we get to watch what they're dreaming about. The second is the kind we've been seeing more and more on this show, and it usually involves Christian or Sean. They either have a daydream or a hallucination - they're just envisioning someone in the room and that certain someone talks to them and sometimes Christian or Sean talk back. This happens to Sean quite often because of Escobar (which confuses him when it's the real thing). Tonight, it was Christian who had an ongoing daydream involving a collection of his former loves and lusts (mostly lusts, of course). Not surprising since Christian seems to finally be in love and is moving in with his new fiancée, Michelle, so he is literally saying goodbye to his infamous bedroom and figuratively saying goodbye to the women he's bedded in the room. I was impressed that they were able to include Kimber, the blind Natasha Charles ( Rebecca Gayheart) and Abby Mays ( Rebecca Metz) equipped with her brown paper bag. But how many of you were hoping to see more of them? I wanted to see Ava. I wanted to see Gina. I wanted to see Kit. And these are just a few. But I accepted the scenes, especially the final one, since there was a bedroom filled to the rim with women, so I got the gist of it. Side note for those of you who also watch Grey's Anatomy - Rebecca Gayheart is married in real life to Eric Dane (McSteamy, who happens to be a plastic surgeon - nice coincidence).

We were treated to a plethora of famous guest stars tonight. The most noteworthy one was the beautiful and Oscar-nominated Catherine Deneuve as Diana Lubey, the woman who asked McNamara/Troy to implant her husband Victor's ashes inside her saline breast implants so she could keep him close inside her. After Sean performed the surgery on Diana within the first half hour, I was trying to figure out how they could take this story line further with the half hour remaining. Enter Brenda Vaccaro! I loved that she was Victor's actual wife, and Diana was just the mistress who stole the ashes and pretended to be the wife. I must add that, like Catherine, the fabulous Brenda is also an Oscar-nominated actress, but if you're like me, you associate her with two things: her husky voice and her Playtex tampon commercials from the '80s.

Back to Catherine as Diana - I thought it was a classy touch for her to kiss Sean at the end like that. He sure needed that after Julia skipped town with the kids last week. Great line of Sean's: "The one woman who would've carried my ashes inside her is gone." It was good to not see him be too miserable tonight - sneaking Victor's real ashes to Diana and even apologizing and hugging Michelle at the end. In a typically clever Nip/Tuck way, right after Sean and Michelle hugged, the camera pulled out to reveal the blood all over the operating light. Earlier, what a lovely sight it was for Michelle to walk in (after hearing an eerie version of "Que Sera Sera" being played in the operating room) to see James ( Jacqueline Bisset) removing a man's organ. That James can tear your heart out. Literally. I liked when Michelle slapped her and threatened to reveal her secret. But then - ouch - James came to Christian with a severely bruised and black eye. Hmmm. I don't think I want to know how she got that, but I agree with those of you who commented that she had it done to her on purpose. Once again - ouch.

Fresh from his first runner-up status on Dancing with the Stars, Mario Lopez returned as Dr. Mike, and it did not surprise me that he wanted to buy Christian's pad. Since he seems to idolize Christian, I'd love Mike to be the next character who pulls an Alex Forrest and gets obsessed with Christian.

Speaking of Christian, let's talk about that scene between him and Sean when Sean confronted Christian and told him that he knew about his... feelings about him. Hilarious. The look on Christian's face was priceless. Especially when Sean told him he started seeing the same therapist. You knew Christian was going to rip Faith Wolper a new one! His whole "I'm not gay" speech to Sean was classic, but my favorite part was, of course, the eyebrows line: "Is it my eyebrows? If I don't wax, I get this unibrow thing, and it gets ugly. Just because I groom 'em doesn't mean I've gone Brokeback." Many of you know I've been commenting about Julian McMahon's eyebrows forever, so obviously I screamed, "Shut up!" when Christian said that. Awesome scene when Christian and Sean agreed that they love each other, just not in that way.

Can we talk about how terrific an actress Brooke Shields is turning out to be? She just gets better with age. That scene when Christian confronted Faith about her breaking the doctor/patient confidentiality rules and then he brought in Sean to add to the ambush was pure acting magic. Brooke's face showed just how mortified Faith was. How about her reactions when Sean was telling Faith that Christian had a new girlfriend? Memo to the Emmy people considering nominations for guest actress in a drama: by hook or by crook, give one to Brooke!
