February 22, 2007: And Then There Were Three

Chris Young was a warm welcome to this penultimate episode (he's not so terrible to look at, either) - and an appropriate performer before naming the Top 3. It was nice to see the final four go back to their hometowns, so we could see a little piece of their history and families before the finale next week.

Who knew Zac wanted to be a preacher? I'm glad he chose music instead. And so were the judges:

Blake: "You're a very sexy man."
Anastasia: "I am weak in the knees."
Randy: "That was really moving."

What was that tangent Jewel went off on about "walks in the park and laughing in the dark"? Maybe helping Zac get some votes? He was good, though. Solid song.

It was really sad that Josh's mom showed up after 20 years, after a TV show opened her eyes to her own son. I don't really know their story, though, so I won't say any more, but it was definitely a heavy moment. But like he said, "What's important is that it happened." His song was fitting, too. He definitely deserved to be standing up there tonight, because he's one of the most emotional singers in the competition. It even made Blake realize that he is a true artist. I can't be too sad for him, though, because when you get this far in the competition, you have a better chance of getting a record deal than a lot of other dreamers out there.

David's home footage matched his personality - fun, fun, fun. Seeing him jam out with his dad confirmed his image of being a family man. (How cute was his baby with those gigantic headphones on?) His performance was great, but I still don't think he's the next Nashville Star.

When Blake took the stage, I thought, "Any of those contestants could sing that song." And then I remembered that I had seen the video for that song a couple of weeks ago on Google. If you want to see Blake singing to the camera, acting out his love-torn lyrics, it's definitely worth taking a look at. (I'm sure Anastasia would tease him about it in front of America if she could.)

Did they save the best for last? I want to know what Zac whispered in Angela's ear before she sang. Here's a trivia question for ya: Name at least one previous job Angela held. She was a meatpacking-plant employee! But beyond tough jobs and being related to Elvis (what?), she is hands down the winner in my eyes.

I knew the Top 3 were the cream of the crop from the very first episode - I believe they made my top-contenders list - so I'm not all that surprised. But I am excited for the finale. Team Angela, baby!
