May 1, 2007: Family

Timing really is everything. Could Matty ( Dabir Snell), on the verge of donating his life-saving bone marrow to Nick ( Jascha Washington), his leukemia-stricken brother, have picked a worse time to get sick? Sure, it wasn't Matty's fault that his house was built on chicken droppings and that he played in dirt filled with gross bacteria that infected him with hystoplasmosis. But still, tick tock. Nick's got four days to live and Matty needs to be healthy to be a donor. What's worse is that it's taking his doctors nearly all of those four days to make a diagnosis.

Maybe if Foreman, still reeling from the loss of last week's patient, wasn't, understandably, pussyfooting around his diagnoses, things might get done faster. You see, he's reluctant to kill again - and who wouldn't be? But this irks House, who, of course, has turned on the countdown clock to Foreman's dismissal. You only get so much time to lick your wounds in this hospital.

With that in mind I'm glad that Foreman pulled it together enough to figure out Matty's infection. Coming off last week's show, there was no way to feel secure that Matty or Nick, or both even, weren't going to die, and watching their parents struggle with the doctors' ever-changing advice was heartbreaking. Honestly, the show made me a little weepy tonight.

As did Foreman's psychotic doctoring. I swear horns sprouted from Foreman's head moments before he decided to extract Matty's marrow without benefit of sedation or even a little painkiller. Saving lives is all good, but torturing people to do so is clearly not the path Foreman wants to (or should) go down. So I appreciate his resignation, though I'm not buying for a moment that Foreman will actually leave Princeton-Plainsboro hospital.

On a lighter note, it's Tuesday. The day Chase reminds Cameron that he likes her and that he wants them to be together. Aw, it's cute, no? And are you as convinced as I am that Cameron is now just playing hard to get? She was considerably less prickly this week towards everyone, even putting away House's backpack without complaint and sparing a few kind words for the parents. Pretty soon she'll be petting Hector, House's dog. Or is it Wilson's? Bonnie's? Whoever owns him now, Hector's visit to the show was scene-stealing - a trick usually reserved for his short-term master.
