May 6, 2007: The King Just Left the Building

"He would have never let this happen." Damn right, Vince. But this is exactly what happens when you think with the lower half of your body, son. The depth of Ari's commitment to his former client was evident in his willingness to skirt just about all the traditions of his religious heritage (and risk Mrs. Ari's wrath) to broker the "Medellin" deal. And although it looks like the deal is dead, we all know that Vince was born to play Pablo Escobar.

So it looks like Amanda might be out of the picture, and I have to admit, I won't miss her all that much. Although I thought Carla Gugino did a great job in the first few episodes, once she and Vince took their relationship to another level, I lost interest. I think it would have made for a much more intriguing story line if they had kept it strictly professional, if the woman trying to "sell" Vince was actually immune to his charms. Instead, things played out like a bad cliché, though Amanda quickly regained the upper hand in the restaurant as she coolly informed Vincent that they were done. (Personally and professionally, one would assume.) If she was bluffing, she was outstanding at it. (I am the worst bluffer in the history of bluffing, so I admire the good ones.)

Meanwhile, I found the story line with Johnny and the horse to be totally absurd. Someone commented last week that he is starting to come across like a bad sitcom character, and this week I have to agree with that assessment. The best part of Johnny's humor is that it has always seemed organic to the character and in these last few episodes, it really feels like the writers are trying too hard to create humor around him. The result has been very cartoonish. Just stay true to the character and let Johnny be Johnny. The humor will flow like well, just think back to that scene on the driveway when they brought the horse to the house.

Finally, some amusing words of wisdom from tonight's episode:

- Ari to his tween daughter when she complained that she was hungry from fasting: "Now you know what Mommy goes through every day to make a hot body for Daddy."
- Johnny talking to the boys about Amanda: "She'd go to the Gaza Strip in a yarmulke for Vince."
- Amanda to her nemesis: "Stop wasting time, Ari. You've got a lot of begging for God's forgiveness to get back to."
- Ari, on one of the virtues of being Jewish: "That is the beauty of Yom Kippur. As long as you apologize by sundown, it doesn't matter what you do."
- Turtle to Drama, as he yells out the window for King: "He's a horse, Drama, not a housecat. I think we'd see him if he was around."

Next week, a reunion, perhaps? We'll see. In the meantime, can't wait for more Entourage? Check out our Online Video Guide.
