The Women Take the Floor

Upon some reflection, I'd say the odds were in the women's favor tonight. With the exception of Mario, I didn't see a stand-out last night. Who would step-up? I wasn't so sure anyone would. Luckily, the ballroom gods had some surprises in store.

Shannon Elizabeth - She has never-ending legs so she should continue to work that for some of the male vote because unless she improves, she may not be around long. Did anyone else know she's going to be 35 this year? So is Monica Seles! She looks so much younger than Monica. That's a darn shame.

Monica Seles - She said she's best known for her power shot. The only thing I remember about her was the look on her face when some crazy person stabbed her in the back. Can you imagine? Literally stabbed in the back! Ok, it was the shoulder - but close enough! That must have been painful. You know what else was painful - that Pepto-Bismol pink dress she had on. Don't get me started on her dancing. All I'll say is she needs to loosen up big time!

Marissa Jaret Winokur - An infectious smile she had, but I didn't see much cha-cha. Was it just me? She had rhythm but it seemed like Tony just danced around her. I'm sure she'll pull it together in the next couple of weeks because I think she is capable of more.

Priscilla Presley - If you thought I wasn't going to be calling her Cilla, well, you couldn't be more wrong. Cilla is 62 so I'm going to cut her a bit of slack, but that face has been through war. When you're sixty-something, I'm guessing you aren't supposed to try and look thirty-something. Did she miss the memo? Regardless, Cilla didn't do so badly out there. In fact, her dance was rather entertaining. I'm glad for her.

Kristi Yamaguchi - If you didn't love her in the 90s, you had no heart! She's still cute as a button. She was by far the best of the women and I'm glad her score from the judges did her justice. She has a shot to go all the way and who better to win ballroom gold than her?

Marlee Matlin - The fact that she had to overcome a disability didn't sway me one bit in her favor. I'm not going to praise or root for someone just because they are at a disadvantage. I call it the Heather Mills Rule. I thought it was a decent dance. What I found remarkable was that she did have rhythm and for someone who has never heard a beat, that's pretty awesome. I wouldn't want to see her continue on sympathy votes, but she may not need them. Only time will tell.

It looks like all the dancers are getting a free pass this week. We'll see them all again Monday in the Latin round and then on Tuesday we'll lose a man and a woman on the same night. Scandalous! Ok, not really. It wouldn't be wise to speculate on who will go yet, but who's gonna stop us? Tell me your thoughts below and come back here next week to discuss our first losers.
