Dancing with the Stars Episode Recap: Wednesday, September 24, 2008
Tonight on
Dancing with the Stars, we said goodbye to another couple, but not before we were treated to some of Adam Carolla's comedy and got bit by the Jonas Brothers' "Lovebug." While this early in the game it's really a crapshoot, I have to say the dancer we said goodbye to tonight deserved a couple more dances to prove himself/herself. Alas, it wasn't to be. So who joined Jeffrey Ross? Let's find out!
As Mickey told you guys last night, he's on a plane back from L.A. right now, so I, Adam Bryant, will do my best to fill his
Dancing shoes. Tonight's show kicked off with a pro dancing number to one of my favorite songs ever, "Under Pressure." But like Mickey, I often find the cover versions of songs on this show painful. (Though it was better than most I remember from Spring Break in Panama City.) I wasn't blown away by the group number, but I usually find myself distracted by all the moving parts to actually absorb it as a whole.
After a quick recap of last night's dances, we learned that Brooke Burke was again leading the pack, while Kim Kardashian and Cloris Leachman were among the judges' least favorite. But what did America make of it all? Cue the "red lights of doom!" Brooke and Derek were quickly saved, followed by a bit of a surprise as Kim "I wish I was J. Lo" Kardashian and Mark earned another chance in the ballroom next week. (Thanks
a lot, America!)
Even though they were sent home early, the
DWTS powers that be let Jeffrey and Edyta show off their quickstep tonight. Not to add insult to injury (literally), but tonight's number made it easy to see why they were gone. I do give Jeff credit for trying, though, and I'm glad to see that he was without the pirate eye patch, at least for his dance. After Jeffrey's number, Tom and Samantha revealed that Cloris and Corky were safe, which was both shocking and unsurprising at the same time. (That now meant the judges' two least favorite last night would be sticking around at someone more deserving's expense. For shame.)
After a clip montage that reminded us that this season was the "biggest" ever (could we forget - they've said it like a million time and several more times in that one package alone!), we spent some time with last season's Jeffrey Ross, Adam Carolla doing some "man on the street" action. Best moments were the baby crying when Adam got in his face (I'm with you, little buddy), the guy saying his favorite judge was Judge Judy (sorry, Bruno) and the other gentleman defending himself for not knowing Cloris Leachman by telling Adam, "I don't even know who you are!"
Let's have some more music shall we? Jesse McCartney sang his ridiculously catchy single, "Leavin'," which on any other night would have all the girls swooning. But not on a night when Nick, Joe and Kevin Jonas were in the house. I can't say they've ever been my cup of tea, but then again, I'm not their target audience. But the girls who love them screamed their little hearts out, which actually drowned out most of the song. (Not that it's a bad thing, since what I did hear was kind of pitchy, dawgs.)
With all the extras out of the way, let's send someone home shall we? Tom and Samantha sent Marurice and Cheryl, Warren and Kym, and Misty and Maks to safety. After a quick backstage interview, which featured a pervy Maurice and an (of course) out-of-control Cloris. Kudos to Corky for calling her out on talking over him, not that it will make much of a difference. Joining the group of safe couples were Susan and Tony, Rocco and Karina, Lance and Lace, and Cody and Julianne.
So, it came down to Miss "Unbreak My Heart" and Mr. Show Killer. As I said earlier, I was shocked to see both Toni and Ted facing elimination, a sentiment echoed by Len. The nervousness on Toni's face was only matched by the disappointment on Ted's when Tom made the dreaded final announcement that he would join Jeffrey as a victim of the first week of competition. Ted tried to be positive despite being obviously let down, noting that he was a "guy's guy" who hoped he "gave the guys on the couch with a beer a chuckle." He definitely came out of the gate looking better than same, but perhaps the McGinley curse was too much to overcome. Sorry, Ted.
So what did you think of tonight's show? Should America take their cues from the judges next week or are you pleased with the outcome? Leave your thoughts below, and check back next week for more with Mickey! And now that we know the Top 11,
