February 12, 2007: Valentine's Day

Right off the bat, I want to say that it will appear to you, the reader, that I am an angry, mean-spirited and overall just a crappy human being as you read the rest of this blog. The reality is, I'm only two of those characteristics. But today, you will clearly get the point that I thought this episode was a complete waste of VCR tape (oh, c'mon - you were also watching Morris O'Brien take a drill to the shoulder).

This just didn't make any sense to me from the beginning. First of all, I know we've seen Ethan stretching in the hall before, but not like this. Why was he exercising there instead of in the apartment? There was no explanation for that at all. Bizarre.

Then, they are watching the weather forecast and it said that Philadelphia was 55 degrees and Allentown was 31. Right now, I'm typing from pretty much smack dab in the middle of those two cities and I guarantee you that this discrepancy would never happen. I get the point that the weatherman was completely wrong since it was actually snowing, but if that's the case, then make all the temperatures in the 50s. At least that's a consistent wrong. And if it's just me (it often is) and I'm missing the humor in this whole scene, then it just wasn't very funny at all.

Yes, yes, I'm getting really picky tonight, but I think that's what happens when you are bored to tears by an episode of one of your favorite shows. Like for instance, has Ethan always had a dog? And if so, where's he been? Maybe with Aaron in Chile? And you really expect me to believe that Palmer was skiing in the street to get to Ethan?

All right, that's it. I don't want to bring you down or drive you away, so I'll suck it up and talk positive for a while.

We saw Perry again! He was really the star of this one, both in putting his hand behind his head talking about giving it to Holly and then carrying his fiery pears and saying, "In my house it's not Valentine's Day unless there's something flaming." I did laugh at that at least.

And you know, it's about time that Duncan came out and said how he felt. Yonk's a goner now.

But hey, back to the bad for a just a minute. Did the Richie/Lina story seem like an afterthought this week? All the scenes were very abrupt and really weren't given any time to develop. Sort of like someone said, "Oh, just toss Richie in somewhere, since he's become the star of the show."

I know you'll agree with me on this one even if I am getting into too much nitpicking. But what am I good for, if I'm not honest, right? Cross your fingers this was a one-time flub.

Until next time, friends.
