January 14, 2007: Pink Is the New Black... Or So They Say
The Donald is all about surprises this year. I can't believe the winner of this swimsuit competition doesn't have to compete in a task next week! What else will he surprise us with this season? I'm wondering how that will work next week, though. Will the team actually doing the task still sleep outside when it's over and just be down an extra teammate? Or is there potential for them to take over the mansion?
But back to this episode... Carey and Aaron have different opinions about the male suits. Tiny Trunks vs Hell No. The pink floral shorts that Arrow first produced was an odd design for a male (in my opinion), and the blame lies with Carey. What he proclaimed to be a "gay suit" doesn't appeal to the entire market.
Meanwhile, the personalities are really starting to clash now. Michelle's got this hard edge, and she's butting up against everyone else on her team. And some Kinetic members aren't thrilled that Heidi's getting so much attention as the PM.
But in the midst of attitudes and disagreements, the show
did go on, and Kinetic presented a very simple, clean-lined collection, which I thought was a solid, strong presentation. Arrow's collection didn't totally crash, but it wasn't cohesive, and when Carey walked down that runway, I felt embarrassed for him. They missed the boat on the men's designs. And just like that, Kinetic took the crown again, and now gets to remain in the mansion and be exempt from next week's task. Oh, and let's not forget the trip to the Playboy Mansion as a reward. What could be better than celebrating a swimsuit win with
Playboy bunnies, right?
And while Hef threw a poolside party for the winners, the losers slumped into their camping chairs and began breaking down the team dynamic. I give credit to Tim for being honest about the team not meshing well and basically telling Michelle to her face that he doesn't really have friends like her. I feel like Aaron and Tim are the most levelheaded on the Arrow team, but I don't know what it's going to take to bring the rest of them together.
In the boardroom, Carey turned me off even more with his fake laughs while blaming Michelle for the entire failed task. I am proud of Frank for mostly keeping his mouth shut. He gave me the opportunity to be annoyed with other contenders. I think him not being the PM helped and he just went with the flow, even though the team lost again anyway. How about Donald making that comment about Frank not having to worry because he'll be back in the Bronx soon? A little foreshadowing? Does he know he'll cut Frank in the near future?
There wasn't much discussion (or at least as far as the viewers saw) between Trump, Ivanka and Heidi before calling back the three heads on the chopping block. I do enjoy Ivanka's questions, though - I think she's really steady and blunt, and I like her input. It balances out Trump's comments like "I have a great, great body." I was glad to see Carey go after this task, though. I'm still unsure of Michelle's ability to blend with her team, but I didn't think this loss was her fault, so it's only right that the creator of that pink suit be let go.
This episode was way too quick for me. I felt like we jumped over lots of details, like how they did their research and how all the suits came together. All of a sudden we were at the fashion show and Trump was barefoot, which was just out of the ordinary. I guess it's expected on a reality show like this that we see more footage of teammates fighting or talking behind each others' backs, but I would have liked to see more designs coming together or how they picked price points for the swimwear. But maybe I'm asking for too much business, when really, even in the high-profile world of Trump, it's all about the personal.
