Included: Mae Bertha Carter, whose children were the first African-American children to attend all-white schools in Mississippi in the 1960s; husband-and-wife actors Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee; basketball Hall of Famer Bill Russell; and Irene Morgan, who gained acclaim for refusing to give up her seat on a bus in 1944.
