Episode Detail: The Pulse - The Pulse
Debut: Fox trots out two of its heaviest News Channel hitters---Bill O'Reilly and Geraldo Rivera---for this fast-paced newsmagazine. In the opener, Rivera looks at the smuggling of men who might be terrorists into the U.S. “It'll be flashy,” promises host Shepard Smith, a News Channel anchor. The format calls for three or four 8-to-9-minute stories per show, plus “a lot of short tidbits,” including a weekly poll. Rivera is expected to focus on the war on terrorism (joined by reporters Linda Vester and Catherine Herridge), while Laurie Dhue concentrates on entertainment news. O'Reilly will debate guests and, says Smith, “he'll tell you what teed him off [each] week.” Also featured in the first program: Herridge reports on the case of a San Antonio probate-court clerk who altered wills to make himself the heir; and O'Reilly interviews Michael Newdow, the California man who sued to have the words “under God” removed from the Pledge of Allegiance.
