Wells' “War of the Worlds.” The landmark Halloween edition of Orson Welles' weekly radio show created a panic that swept the Nation as the classic tale of a Martian invasion was broadcast to more than 1 million households. Premise: A golden-age series of original live dramas and adaptations of classic works. The series, which earned numerous Emmys nominations during its 10-year run, won for Best Dramatic Show in 1952. `Studio One' creator and producer Worthington C. Miner encouraged innovation and creativity at all levels. Among its most memorable productions is the one that opened the 1954 season, `Twelve Angry Men,' which won Emmys for writing (Reginald Rose), directing (Franklin Schaffner) and acting (Robert Cummings).
