Premise: A riveting drama about a San Francisco cop turned late-night radio talk-show host who gets involved in the lives and problems of his listeners (he left the force in the wake of having accidentally killed his partner). Moody, winning stories ranged from murder mysteries to alcoholism and homelessness, but its most memorable episode had a heartbreaking AIDS plotline, highlighted by guest star Kay Lenz's Emmy-winning turn as lead character Jack Killian's former lover.
