Episode Detail: A Copland Centennial Celebration - Evening at Pops
The venerable summer music series opens its 31st season with a salute to Aaron Copland (1900-1990) featuring soprano Dawn Upshaw and baritone Jubilant Sykes. Upshaw assesses Copland's career in segments taped at Vermont's Shelbourne Museum and performs “Laurie's Song,” from Copland's opera “The Tender Land.” Sykes sings “I Bought Me a Cat.” Also: the Boston Ballet performs “Hoedown,” from “Rodeo”; and conductor Keith Lockhart plays piano on 1921's “Jazzy.” Pops selections include “Fanfare for the Common Man.”
