The six contestants are shown a briefcase containing $10,000 and given two minutes to decide if someone will take the money and leave the compound. If one departs, Beth, a 22-year-old alternate contestant, will move in. Two more houseguests are nominated for banishment. One of them will become the fifth person to be voted out of the house. Julie Chen is the host.

Premise: The lives of disparate housemates are captured on-camera 24/7 over a three-month period, with one person getting the boot every week (originally it was every two weeks). The last to leave wins $500,000. The intrusive Orwellian premise drew its share of critical barbs, but the series was popular enough to spawn a number of sequels.
