Premise: One of PBS's most distinguished series, mounting superb dramas and musicals by the likes of (to name just a few) Eugene O'Neill, John Cheever, Lanford Wilson, Mark Twain, Thornton Wilder, James Baldwin and Stephen Sondheim. Perhaps the most memorable (and controversial) presentation: `Armistead Maupin's Tales of the City,' which won a Peabody Award.
