“An American Love Story,” Part 2 of 10. In “A Piece of the Puzzle Is Missing,” Cicily goes to Nigeria in a semester-abroad program. “They were worried sick,” says Chaney of her parents, particularly Karen. And, as it happens, Karen is also sick, with fibrous tumors. As for Bill, he withdraws, both emotionally and physically---he goes to Ohio for a gig, which turns out to be a disaster. But when he's home he's a homemaker. “He's more like Harriet,” laughs Karen, “only he won't admit it.”
