Surveying wildlife in Costa Rica. This Central American nation is a “land of pure life,” says narrator Holland Taylor, but “survival is a lottery.” A case in point: sea turtles, which hatch each winter on Pacific Ocean beaches. Hungry vultures await, along with coatis and wood storks. In a rainforest inland, a boa constrictor eyes a rat, then swallows it in one gulp; and two Hercules beetles fight for turf (a log). But for two romantically inclined crocodiles, it's time to make love, not war.
