Part 1 of a three-part tribute to the 1969 Stonewall riots in Greenwich Village, which are considered the beginning of the modern LGBT civil-rights movement. Included: the community's defining moments; the difficulties faced by young people; how the Internet has changed communication in the LGBT community; a conversation between activists Larry Kramer and Lady Bunny, the Wigstock founder and drag queen; Gilbert Baker, the creator of the gay-pride rainbow flag.

Premise: A gay and lesbian-themed magazine series that includes investigative reports and profiles of newsmakers, along with features on aspects of gay culture. The series drew fire even before it aired when then-senator Bob Dole attacked it as a `gay Ed Sullivan show.' The show persevered, however, went on to win awards from several gay and lesbian organizations, including the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association and GLAAD.
