Archaeologists dig for “Lost Treasures of Afghanistan,” including a 1500-year-old “sleeping” Buddha said to be 1000 feet long. Archaeologist Zemaryali Tarzi searches for the prone figure near the site of the two Buddha statues blown up by the Taliban in 2001. In Kabul, meanwhile, a 2000-year-old cache of funerary objects known as “the Bactrian horde” has been missing since 1979. The hour also recounts efforts to save cultural artifacts during the Taliban era. Peter Coyote narrates.
