Debut: Geena Davis occupies the Oval Office as Mackenzie Allen, the nation's first female president. She's also the first independent chief executive, and she takes office despite the wishes of her Republican predecessor, who died of a brain aneurism after asking her to resign as vice president to make way for House Speaker Nathan Templeton (Donald Sutherland). But Templeton's patronizing attitude so infuriated Allen that she refused. Rod Allen: Kyle Secor.

Premise: Geena Davis stars as America's first female president, and an independent to boot. A former vice-president, Mackenzie Allen takes office when her Republican predecessor dies. This does not sit well with GOP panjandrums, especially conniving House Speaker Nathan Templeton, who tries to thwart her at every turn. Rod Lurie, who wrote the 2001 political thriller 'The Contender,' created this ABC hit but Steven Bochco took over as showrunner soon after its debut.
