Michael McDonald performs with help from Ashford and Simpson and Doobie Brothers Tom Johnston and Patrick Simmons. Among the tunes McDonald sings are “Sweet Freedom” and “I Heard It Through the Grapevine.” Ashford and Simpson join him for “Ain't No Mountain High Enough” and “Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing”; and Johnston and Simmons perform “Black Water” and “Take Me in Your Arms,” and lend a hand on “Minute by Minute” and “What a Fool Believes.”

Premise: An outstanding music-performance series featuring in-studio concerts. It's in its second go-round on PBS. The first ran from 1974 to 1985 and included sets from Bob Dylan, Al Green, Aretha Franklin, the Temptations and Bonnie Raitt. The new show has spotlighted the likes of Alison Krauss and Union Station, Tom Petty, Lyle Lovett and Chris Isaak.
