Masterpiece Episode: "Tess of the D'Urbervilles"

Episode Synopsis: The conclusion of "Tess of the D'Urbervilles" finds Tess (Gemma Arterton) telling Angel (Eddie Redmayne) about Alec (Hans Matheson) on their wedding night, which doesn't sit well with Angel. Later, while Angel attempts to start a new life in Brazil, she works on a farm and fends off advances from Alec, who has taken a renewed interest in her after a chance meeting. Premise: PBS's longest running (and most honored) dramatic series is an Anglophile's delight, featuring British adaptations of literary classics and original works. The first `Masterpiece' was `The First Churchills,' and since then it has won nine Peabodys and 29 Emmys (beginning with Susan Hampshire's Best Actress award for `Churchills'). Its many memorable productions include `Upstairs, Downstairs,' `I, Claudius,' 'The Jewel in the Crown,' `House of Cards,' `Poldark' and `Prime Suspect.'
