Masterpiece Episode: "Aristocrats"

Episode Synopsis: A three-part adaptation of “Aristocrats.” The fact-based chronicle revolves around the four Lennox sisters, great-grand daughters of King Charles II, exploring their love lives and the attendant social ramifications. In Part 1, eldest sister Caroline (Serena Gordon) outrages her father (Julian Fellowes) when she elopes with a freethinker (Alun Armstrong). Second sister Emily (Geraldine Somerville) has a more traditional suitor in Lord Kildare (Ben Daniels), but there's a problem with him, too. He's Irish. Duchess of Richmond: Diane Fletcher. King George II: Clive Swift. Sian Phillips narrates. Original Air Date: Oct 10, 1999

Premise: PBS's longest running (and most honored) dramatic series is an Anglophile's delight, featuring British adaptations of literary classics and original works. The first `Masterpiece' was `The First Churchills,' and since then it has won nine Peabodys and 29 Emmys (beginning with Susan Hampshire's Best Actress award for `Churchills'). Its many memorable productions include `Upstairs, Downstairs,' `I, Claudius,' 'The Jewel in the Crown,' `House of Cards,' `Poldark' and `Prime Suspect.'
