Episode Synopsis: A daredevil bicycle-messenger race leaves in its wake (and in the ER) an array of patients, including a banged-up cyclist who hits on Meredith and a brain-dead hit-and-run victim. The tragedy this man represents gets to Izzie. But who'll get his liver? One possibility is an older gay cancer patient (Keith David), who likes to flirt with George, who doesn't know how to handle it. Premise: Surgical residents at a Seattle teaching hospital hone their bedside manners on and off the job in this medical drama, which parlayed a cushy initial time slot (post-'Desperate Housewives') and a hefty dollop of sex and romance into immediate success. Indeed, in the opener, intern Meredith Grey sleeps with attending Derek ('McDreamy') Shepherd the night before starting work at Seattle Grace and discovers the next day that he's her boss. Their romantic ups and downs became the series' keystone.
