Verdi's 1853 tragic masterpiece “La Traviata,” taped on Paris locations. Soprano Eteri Gvazava and tenor Jose Cura star in the production, which aired live in Europe in June 2000, telecast over two days from the Hotel Boisgelin on the Left Bank; a bucolic Versailles hamlet; the Petit Palace off the Champs Elysée; and an apartment in the shadows of Notre Dame. It is in these places where the sickly courtesan Violetta (Gvazava) shares a star-crossed romance with a rich young man named Alfredo (Cura). Zubin Mehta conducts the RAI Symphony.
