Episode Detail: Dance in America: Le Corsaire with American Ballet Theatre - Great Performances
American Ballet Theatre performs “Le Corsaire,” a bold 1856 saga of love, betrayal, abduction and murder (and, of course, piracy), based on a Byron poem. It's a showcase for male virtuosity, and this production (taken from Marius Petipa's 1899 choreography) features Ethan Stiefel and Joaquin De Luz as good and bad pirates vying for a slave named Medora (Julie Kent). Staged by the Boston Ballet's Anna-Marie Holmes, and taped at the Orange County Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa, Cal.
