Episode Detail: Day at the Beach - Oliver Beene

It's no day at the beach when the Beenes spend a day at the Capri Beach Club. First, there's Charlotte's “fashion faux pas”: her bathing suit is out of style. And the arrogant couple from the membership committee (“We're just here to observe and judge your every move”) knock back the drinks at a pace Charlotte and Jerry can't begin to match. As for Ted, the “older woman” (Wendie Malick) who offers him romantic advice turns out to be a lot more than he can handle. And Oliver? He gets a once-in-a-lifetime chance to be the swimming partner of his beloved Bonnie (Amanda Michalka). Trouble is, he can't swim.

Premise: Early-'60s dysfunctional-family humor, narrated by the (now-adult) younger son, `Wonder Years'-style. The dysfunction comes naturally when Mom is obsessed with Jackie Kennedy and Dad really enjoys being a dentist (it's his hobby as well as his job). As for 11-year-old Oliver, he's the `class clown' whose hero happens to be comic Lenny Bruce.
