Episode Detail: Heart of Darkness - Nightline
In Part 3 of a five-part report on life in war-ravaged Congo, Ted Koppel visits Kisangani, a onetime diamond-trading center on the Congo River that has become all but inaccessible because fighting has stopped river traffic. The supplies that do get through do so by bicycle---from a city 100 miles away. Incidentally, Kisangani, once called Stanleyville, was the setting for Joseph Conrad's novel “The Heart of Darkness.” Taped in July, 2001.
