A hearing-impaired 14-year-old (Becki Leigh Barney) wants a cochlear implant, but her parents (Marlee Matlin, Larry Bazzell), who are also deaf (and proud of it), won't hear of it. Meanwhile, hospital lawyer Elaine Hoffman (Polly Draper) asks Ben out; and a patient (Matthew Eason) who Sid had thought was a “gomer” turns out to be not so vegetative after all. “He can't move,” Sid tells Brucie, “but he's alive in there.” Dr. Katie Fieldstone: Amy Aquino.
