CSI: Crime Scene Investigation Episode: "Leaving Las Vegas"

Season 7, Episode 11

Episode Synopsis: Catherine testifies in a murder trial in which a man is accused of murdering his own mother three years ago, but the suspect is found not guilty. Catherine, however, believes he did commit the crime and that he may also have killed two other people, so she sets out to find the other victims. Catherine's probe leads to a small Nevada town where an elderly woman and her daughter were fatally stabbed and shot three years earlier. Back at the lab, Grissom prepares to leave on a four-week sabbatical. Original Air Date: Jan 4, 2007

January 4, 2007: Bye Bye, Gil

Welcome to 2007, everyone. I planned on an emotional ride for my first new episode of the calendar year, but I really didn't get that. Grissom's going on sabbatical — we knew that part. How the last episode played out was going to be the story. But it really wasn't. There wasn't that much drama at all. Hodges was the first to find out and got him a college sweatshirt and started talking to Gil about his "crazy times" at the school since he was a student there. Cat then found out she was going to be acting supervisor and, like a good CSI, she'd be focused more on her cases instead. The moment with Warrick was good, when Gil told him he was "the rock of the team... be there for Catherine like you were for me." That's cool coming from a guy who gives out such little praise. Nick is certainly the funniest one, though. Thinking Gil won't be back at all, he goes up and hugs him:Gil: "I'll be back in four weeks, stop hugging me."Nick: "Yes, sir." Ha! Premise: Las Vegas criminologists use scientific methods to solve grisly murders in this unusually graphic (and hugely popular) drama, which inspired a host of other cop-show 'procedurals.' An immediate ratings smash for CBS, the series adroitly mixes painstaking deduction, gritty subject matter and intriguing characters. The network quickly capitalized on its megahit with spin-offs 'CSI: Miami' and 'CSI: NY.'
