Cheers: A Mother of a Finale

How I Met Your Mother by Eric McCandless/CBS
Cheers to
How I Met Your Mother for realizing that comedy and emotion don't have to be mutually exclusive. Most current sitcoms uphold
Seinfeld's "no hugging, no learning" motto, opting for too-cool-for-school irony in lieu of falling into Very Special Episode syndrome. Not so
HIMYM, which proves both gutbusting (e.g., Barney's "date-time continuum," which states you can't make plans further in the future than the amount of time you've been going out) and heart-rending. The third-season finale overflowed with moving moments triggered by a pair of traffic accidents: estranged bros Ted and Barney's reconciliation, Barney's realization of his feelings for Robin and Ted's proposal to Stella. Will she say yes and become the show's titular mother? That, as Barney might say, would be awesome.
See what injured Barney really
has to say, in Barney's Blog.
