Episode Recap: “The Line”Heroes has never made me lose interest, but it did get off to a slow start. I knew tonight would be a good episode. OK, I hoped tonight would be a great episode. It was the lead-in to November sweeps. However, I didn’t want to set my expectations too high. I’ve noticed a growing trend with network television: they build up the months of November, February and May for Nielsen ratings, and then leave us hanging. Sometimes, the episodes that air during those sweeping months live up to the abundance of promos, previews and annoying scroll lines under everything you watch. Other times, a ferry crashes and we are left with the letters WTF on our minds. I was shocked when she fought against Sylar and managed to take her own life before he could steal her power. Tonight, Ricky sacrificed himself as well. He may not have stuck his finger into a socket on his own, but he did lie to protect Peter and his sister. In the end, he paid with his life. He literally was “toast." Episode Recap: "Four Months Later...." (September 24, 2007)Of all the shows I follow, this was the premiere that had me fidgeting in my cubicle all day. I have never missed an episode. Question: You hinted last week that Zachary Quinto's role as Spock in the Star Trek feature might mean "losing Sylar for a chunk of the season." Are they killing Sylar off? Or will he return when Quinto is done with Star Trek?
Answer: I think what you're asking is, "Will Spock kill Sylar?!" And the answer is no. Quinto will return to Heroes after wrapping Trek — and mostly likely just in time for the season finale in April.

Answer: Yeah, I think that's been the general consensus. Even Heroes bossman Tim Kring is thrilled by the nifty piece of casting — although it probably means losing Sylar for a chunk of the season. "I was actually involved with this happening," he says. "Damon Lindelof and J.J. Abrams and I are friends, and we discussed this many months ago. There were a couple of behind-the-scenes phone calls and conversations and we were able to work it out."

At the 38th Annual Comic-Con International, fans of the sci-fi and fantasy genres proved they're no longer on the fringe. The mammoth convention, held this past weekend at the San Diego Convention Center, attracted more than 125,000 people, and in a nod to the fact that the event has gone far beyond comic books, it has billed itself as "celebrating the popular arts." Movie studios and TV networks packed huge rooms with rabid fans eager for exclusive scoop and swag.On the first day it was officially confirmed that Zachary Quinto, Heroes' slithery villain Sylar, will indeed be playing Spock in the next Star Trek movie (opening Dec. 25, 2008). You'd swear that Comic-Con International was the TCA press tour the way news poured out of it over the weekend. The highlights: • Lost genius J.J. Abrams confirmed that he's cast Heroes' Zacharo Quinto as a young Spock in his upcoming Star Trek prequel — and has signed the Vulcan's original portrayer, Leonard Nimoy, to appear in the film as well. The New York Post adds that William Shatner is in talks to cameo as Cap'n Kirk. • An HD-DVD collection of Star Trek: The Original Series is being released on Nov. 20 in a set of 10 two-sided discs. (The high-def version of the classic series will be on one side of the discs, with the standard version on the other.) Extras include the new visual effects, CGI and re-recorded score that are currently being featured in the syndicated version of the show, plus a 3-D self-navigated shuttle tour of the NCC-1701, a "Starfleet Access" interface with on-screen icons that offer additional data, the ubiquitous trivia, new video interview...

Just back from the TCA-sponsored press event on the Heroes set with scoop galore. Let's get right to it.• Lyndsy Fonseca is out as Claire's gay cheerleader pal. No, not out like that. She's out as in, off the show. According to Heroes creator Tim Kring, Fonseca's role had to be cut short after she landed that series-regular gig on Desperate Housewives. "She wasn't a pivotal character," Kring says of Claire's pal, who will now appear in just one episode. "The idea was that that part would grow, but it never got a chance to."• The entire cast was present with the exception of Leonard Roberts (D.L.), although Kring cautioned reporters not to necessarily "read anything into that."
