Project Runway All Stars: Season 3 Scoop

Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn just won the Emmy for outstanding reality host, but they may have some competition from the franchise's new leading lady, Alyssa Milano. After all, executive producer Harvey Weinstein did handpick her to be Project Runway All Stars' latest host.

The Thursday Playlist: The Last Resort, Big Gets for Katie, Kimmel, Archer's Bromance

Under the familiar heading of "shows gone too soon," ABC's robust, though at times berserk, military thriller Last Resort is the only failed freshman series from this season's underwhelming fall crop that I would argue deserved more of a chance — or at least a tryout in a more appropriate time period — to catch on as it figured out its sprawling narrative. With the great Andre Braugher and the appealing Scott Speedman leading a strong and (on the island at least) exotic cast, this action drama about a rogue nuclear sub standing up against a homeland gone haywire is unlike anything else on network TV. Which made it a risk, though one well worth taking, and at least ABC let the producers complete the initial 13-episode order, which now comes to a too-early, but let's hope satisfying, end (Thursday, 8/7c).

Here Comes the Judge: Zac Posen Joins Project Runway Full Time

Project Runway All Stars made its final cut last week, but there's a new all star in town and he's sitting at the judges' table. American fashion designer, Zac Posen — who has previously been a guest judge — makes his debut as a full-time judge — this Thursday on the first-ever teams edition of Project Runway (9/8c, Lifetime). Posen replaces Michael Kors (he'll appear on the season finale) joining Heidi Klum, Nina Garcia and Tim Gunn, along with a slew of guest judges for Season 11. What else can viewers expect to walk down the catwalk? Posen, 32, gives us the scoop.

Watercooler: America's Next Top Bully?

Dag, Tyra, make up your mind. Are you against bullying or not? Earlier this season, er, cycle, La Banks tackled the headline-dwelling issue of bullying by having her mini-minions photographed with words that hurt painted all over their bodies. Whether or not the concept was hypocritical (after all, this show is all about being judged), props must go to ANTM for at least trying to be part of the solution.

Then last night they kind of blew it all to hell. By recruiting a gaggle of professional models to dish out backstage abuse to the remaining contestants during a Zac Posen show, Top Model stooped to just the sort of mean-girl antics that Miss Jay actually told the pros to unleash on the newbies.  Did they really need to be insulted, shut down and psyched out like that, right before hitting the catwalk? read more

Eye Candy

Episode 6The Challenge: Oh, the bittersweet taste of mixing candy with fashion! The designers were taken on a field trip to the Hershey store in Times Square. They were given five minutes to fill shopping bags with whatever costly items they wanted. Some opted for fabric based items such as giant candy bar pillows, while others took the edible route with peanut butter cups and Twizzlers. I immediately thought of costume designer, Chris March. Of all the designers, he has had the most experience with non-material fabric. Chris has had a tendency to add small details to his designs (red fish tail on a navy skirt) that give the “costume” impression. This challenge could have gone either way for him. I feared the worst. The Designers: Christian has his cute, corky moments, but he was annoying tonight. The dress he made, using brown fabric and the brown wrappers from Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups as detail, was nice, but it wasn’t extraordinary. He sewed a h... read more
