Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron in High School Musical 2 by Bob D'Amico/Disney Channel
As Disney Channel's High School Musical 2 continues to rack up ratings in addition to the record 17.2 million who caught Friday's premiere, 8.4 mil tuned in for Saturday's rerun and 7.5 mil crooned in for Sunday's sing-along talk continues of a feature-film adaptation of the original. Stars Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens, though, may not be available, if only because Disney is "only offering them $1 million each," a source tells the New York Post. A studio rep responds, "We are still in negotiations with the entire cast," but declined to comment further on the talks.UPDATED: An HSM2 encore is scheduled for Thursday at 8 pm/ET. Kevin Bacon by John Shearer/WireImage.com
While speaking with Kevin Bacon about this Monday's episode of The Closer, where he once again directed wife Kyra Sedgwick, TVGuide.com asked for the actor's thoughts on the recently announced Footloose remake starring High School Musical's Zac Efron. "I've heard about it," says Bacon, "and it's great, but of course the truth is they're not really remaking the movie that I was in. They're remaking the Broadway musical [which premiered on the planks in 1998]."In other words, what we have here is a situation exactly à la Hairspray, says Bacon. "You had a movie that was not a musical becoming a Broadway musical, and they make a movie of that."Nonetheless, does Bacon find a certain added validation in that something he did so long ago keeps on dancing? With a near-chuckle, he answers, "Um, I can find validation other ways."Look for my complete Q&A with Bacon in Monday's Interviews & Features.Related: Zac Efron Brings Home the Bacon in Footloose Redo
Zac Efron by Steve Granitz/WireImage.com
Let's hear it for the boy! Paramount is developing a full-blown musical remake of 1984's Footloose, with High School Musical cutie Zac Efron picking up where Kevin Bacon's be-bopping, Walkman-toting Ren left off. HSM helmer Kenny Ortega is in talks to both choreograph and direct the redo. The original Footloose, for those so young you sicken me, concerned a rebellious newcomer's arrival in a small town that has banned dancing. (And no, it's not where Ashlee Simpson lives.)Related: Kevin Bacon Clears the Air About Footloose Remake

Zac Efron and Vanessa Anne Hudgens, High School Musical
Before a single frame has been shot for the sequel to the Disney Channel's megahit TV-movie High School Musical, plans are already under way for a third film. But this one will be for the big screen.
Disney has announced plans to have the yet-to-be-titled second sequel premiere in movie theaters by the fourth quarter of 2008. The release will be timed for Halloween and have a story set in a haunted high school, Disney Channel chief Rich Ross told the Biz.
"The bigness of the idea we're working on would require a budget that would far outstrip what we've spent on other Disney Channel movies," said Ross, citing the reason for going the theatrical route first.
Ross said the cast has been alerted of plans to go ahead with a third High School Musical, but none have been signed as of yet. They will all reprise their roles in High School Musical 2, which begins production
Zac Efron, of the popular High School Musical TV-movie, lends his voice this Saturday to The Replacements, Disney Channel's animated series about tween siblings who order supercool parents through a comic-book ad. Efron will voice Davey Hunkerfoff, a (you guessed it) hunky new lifeguard at the town pool. In its first month on the air, The Replacements (Saturdays at 8 pm/ET) has ranked No. 1 among broadcast and basic-cable series with kids age 6 to 11.

For months, many of you have been hounding me to increase Ask Ausiello to two times a week. And now, at last, your wish has been… well, not granted, exactly, but at least considered. As a result, I present you with the next best thing: an Ausiello Report dedicated to answering six of the biggest questions in the TV world (that I have answers to). Think of it as a mini-Ask Ausiello without so much legwork or typing on my part.
Has UPN canceled Veronica Mars?In a word, no. In another word, phew. But fans were understandably reaching for their Xanax stash when an official-looking press release began circulating around the Web Thursday claiming, "UPN has announced the cancellation of cult classic Veronica Mars." Turns out the whole thing was a big, nasty, cruel, heinous, unfunny hoax. But that's not to say there isn't cause for concern. Wednesday's
