Willem Dafoe Fast Facts:

Born William and known as Bill in his youth, but began going by Willem in high school.
In 1969, a newspaper said his performance in A Thousand Clowns at Wisconsin's Attic Theatre "delightful" and that he was "a lad with a promising future." A pretty accurate prediction, considering he has twice been nominated for an Oscar.
Left college to join Milwaukee-based Theatre X, which was one of the longest-running experimental theater groups in the country when it disbanded in 2004.
In the late '70s, he joined the Wooster Group, an experimental theater troupe in New York City. Its founding members included the late Spalding Gray and Dafoe's longtime girlfriend, Elizabeth LeCompte. The two had an acrimonious split in 2004 after 27 years together. Provided the voice for James Bond's nemesis Nikolai Diavolo in the video game James Bond 007: Everything or Nothing.
