Actor Wesley Snipes received the maximum sentence of three years in prison for not filing three years of tax returns.The IRS says Snipes skipped out on paying nearly $3 million in taxes on $14 million of income over a three-year period.Snipes engaged in battle with the IRS for several years, arguing the government had no legal right to collect taxes. Two years after being indicted, Wesley Snipes was acquitted on Feb. 1 of federal tax fraud and conspiracy, but convicted on three misdemeanor counts of failing to file a tax return. Snipes, along with two codefendants, was originally charged with six counts of failing to pay taxes from 1999-2004 — aka the same years in which he signed contracts for more than $10 million for Blade sequels. Despite his acquittal on three counts of fraud, he still faces those remaining misdemeanor convictions, which entail a possible three years in jail. If Snipes does have to serve time, however, he'll have to get used to standing up for himself without a vampire cape. — Anna Dimond

Wesley Snipes surrendered to police on income-tax evasion charges early on Friday at Orlando International Airport. The actor — who was reportedly in Namibia filming a horror movie called Gallowwalker — is due to appear in court this afternoon, where he could face 16 years in prison if convicted on charges of illegally claiming tax refunds of almost $12 million, and neglecting to file income-tax returns from 1999 through 2004. For more, see Reuters.UPDATE: Per the AP, Snipes, released on $1 million bond after pleading not guilty to the charges, said after the Friday hearing, "I look forward to clearing my name and resolving this issue posthaste."

Comedy Central has ordered six episodes of The Sarah Silverman Program, set to premiere in the summer, while Spike TV has rung up 13 hours of its first-ever scripted series, Blade, based on the Marvel superhero.
